I want to buy an iPod dock from US and most of then ones available are 120v AC / 60 Hz. Naturally we need a step down transformer for 220v to 110v conversion. Now this is something i want to avoid using, in the event that i buy such an iPod dock.

Now i know that these iPod docks do not run directly on the 120v AC power but usually have a adapter and the actual voltage received by the dock would be usually low (5V or 12V ...not sure).

So in such a scenario, can i buy an adapter to replace the stock adapter, from India which can accept 220v and still output the same as the original adapter.

I am not even sure whether my understanding is correct or not.

You are right, after all the dock just needs its power no matter from where it comes from either 110v or 220v.

Just check the stock adapter apple or the dock manufacturer is providing, there should be a sticker or markings stating the input and output voltages and current.

The o/p will be DC so no worries about the frequency part, therefore a 50Hz supply will work in place of 60 Hz.

Get the adapter having the same output specs as specified but with 220V/50Hz input.
