Query regarding MX5021

Hi all,

I'm a new member of TechEnclave.

I was a proud owner of a set of MX5021 speakers for more than two years. I lost them during shipping and got the compensation also (after a lot of follow-up:@ ). So now once again I have purchased the MX5021 four days back i.e. 06 Aug 2008.

I bought it from a local vendor. The set is manufactured in Honkong and is imported in India by Rashi Peripherals Pvt. Ltd. I didn't check the box at vendor's shop. When I opened the box at my place I saw the front grill of the sub-woofer was open :S , also two screws of the woofer were not fixed and were lying in the box, but nothing was damaged. I fixed them, made the connections.

At present I'm using them with an i-Pod nano. I feel the lows are not so tight and punchy :( as they were in the previous set of MX5021. I know they take some break-in period before they start sounding good. But the bass is not at all punchy and tight but is of lot of boom. The previous set of speakers were also used with same i-pod nano and they were just awesome.

Now I have few doubts  :

1. Is the set of speakers is genuine (packaging and containing itmes looks genuine to me)? How to identify?

2. If yes, did someone tried to open the sub-woofer :( , How to identify if the woofer (woofer alone and not the sub-woofer box) is genuine and is of MX5021 only, since FX6021, VS4221 and VS4121 also has the same 6.5" long throw woofer?

3. If yes, why the lows are not tight and is of lot of boom?

Please clarify all doubts. I feel something is wrong with this set of speakers.

Can you provide some pictures?

The drivers in the original MX were extremely stiff with a low-loss surround. It is possible they migrated the production to another vendor to keep costs down, and the quality may have suffered.

A lot of times a new room will cause speakers to behave differently. This is well-known. If your room dimensions or placement changes, the biggest difference is usually in the low end. Try moving the sub away from a wall, and try and turn it sideways to keep the rear port clear. In extreme cases, you may try to stuff the port to reduce the boom.

I'll try to upload few pictures. I don't have PC. so I use cyber cafe for browsing.

and yes it's a new room for this set of speakers.
I think boom may be due to the break-in period and also due to the source used, i.e. i-pod nano. I remember last pair sounded far better with my PC at home than with the i-pod.

Anyway I'll try to workout your suggestions.

would you like to add something more:hap2: ?
