Hello everyone :)

I recently ordered a PC game from an online shop and was told that it had shipped. Now it will take some time for delivery, but I am concerned whether I'll have to pay any customs or import duty?

Its a single game costing about Rs.1500.

Everything you import is dutiable legally. Min 16% duty on everything is there.

But you might get lucky. Games, DVDs, music cds can sneak through the customs. Specially if package is not too big.

From where did u ordered it? amazon?

I got it from Play-asia.com. Its being shipped in the format of an envelope having a bubble wrapped slipcase which contains the discs and manuals. The shipping and delivery to India was free, i.e. I didn't have to pay any shipping and handling charges.

I've had a similar package sent to me by a friend in the USA, but that one contained just a single CD having some software in it. I wasn't charged any duty on that one, so?

And how will I be informed even if I have to pay the duty?

I didn't pay any duty too.. Once I got a Dell laptop battery and a bios update cd with it from the US .. my cousin was charged 10$ (shipping , USPS)

I believe consumer electronic goods below the value of Rs.2000 are not dutiable. And also, I read somewhere that any type of data storage media is not dutiable. Since CDs/DVDs are basically data storage media, I guess it shouldn't be dutiable?

most likely you wont be charged as the price is low & its just 1 cd/dvd

i think the rule is if the package is marked as gift & value is 100 $ or less , you dont have to pay customs , maybe im wrong
