Hi guys,
I have a few questions for you guys who've RMAed your Seagate HDD from Mumbai.
I just gave my Seagate 1 TB HDD for RMA to my uncle's "computer-wala". I used SeaTools to create a validation code and checked my warranty on Seagate's website. It's till 15 July 2014
I also wrote the "Warranty Validation Code" on the HDD by marker pen.
Now, this "computer-wala" seems shady to me as he called my uncle up and said "this HDD was bought in GREY and has no warranty". I called him up and spoke with him and told him that I've checked the warranty status online and that it's up till 2014, and then he said "Acha sir, you've checked it online, then our internet must not be working properly" and I was like....yeah whatever
Now, I have a few questions for you guys, the knowledge of which will prevent me from getting conned by this guy
I reside in Kalyan City (nearby Mumbai), so it would've mostly gone to RMA in Andheri or somewhere nearby Mumbai.
Anyways, here are the questions.
1) Does Seagate provide some RMA number ? The "computer-wala" said he's "couriered" the HDD, and it's been almost 7 to 8 days now since he's had the HDD, and last I spoke with him yesterday, he said it will still take another 8 to 10 days. If Seagate Mumbai does provide a number, then can I track it manually or at least call them up to confirm the status.
2) The newly RMAed HDD, will it carry the SAME SERIAL NUMBER ? I have the details of my original drive, which was sent for RMA. Will it carry the same details ? I sure do hope it will carry the same WARRANTY DATE which was 15 July, 2014 on the website.
If someone can answer these 2 questions, then I hopefully won't get conned by this guy.
I just wanna make sure I get the EXACT SAME RMAed DRIVE that Seagate gave in place of my original drive, and not some other drive this guys just hands over.
Thank you so much in advance for all the info. Desperately waiting for a reply
