Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday pledged to roll out a monthly income guarantee scheme, if his party comes to power at the Centre, to ensure India’s 20 per cent poorest families make at least Rs 12,000 every month. The scheme would cover 5 crore families and benefit nearly 25 crore people, said Gandhi after the Congress Working Committee cleared the plan that party president described as the “final assault on poverty”.

This is about justice for the poor, said Gandhi at a press conference to announce the contours of the guarantee scheme that will make its way to the Congress manifesto ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“We are going to give you justice. Remember the number… The Congress guarantees that 20 per cent of India’s poor would make at least Rs 72,000 annually,” he said, describing it as a historic move.

The Congress chief insisted that the plan was “fiscally prudent” and implementable.

I'd rather have that government put more money in education and jobs rather than this kind of populist rhetoric.
 
damn, if they win and they pass this scheme, it will be another extra cess on every bill. Any FM coming just keeps adding cess after cess on top of tax to get more money out of people.

Atleast they will be answering where the cess money goes. This current govt charged some cess despite it being not authorised or lawful. Pls google for more results.
 
This will never happen. It's merely election bluster.
It's a struggle to pay the pensions of govt. employees and now ~7k per month for ~60 million households = ~40000+ crores per month (over 4.8 lakh crore crore/year)
Did we start crapping gold ingots or something?

unless he has invented idhar se aloo daalo udhar se sonaa nikalo machine,its impossible to fund 3,00,000 crores needed for this scheme.
his maths skills also are great,says12000 per month but per year says 72000.
so which figure to trust him on?

and for all we know,whats status of karnataka farmers? 44,000 crores went to less than 800 farmers pocket.

MP farmers got nothing as of now and are back to urea and other fertilizers not available status.
rajsthan is getting more and more secular.

so those who believe RaGa are smoking something strong.
 
During the last elections, Modi vowed that they will get back black money from Swiss banks and deposit Rs 15 lac in everyone's bank accounts. They even let rumors spread that the Jan Dhan accounts are for that purpose. More recently, Nitin Gadkari clarified that they were just bullshitting before the elections like there is no tomorrow.

While not the same level of BS, this is still a similar kind of BS. This sort of BS seems to be becoming the norm these days. Another laughable BS promise of RG is building houses for all the slum dwellers in Mumbai in 2 days if being elected.

Fine but how is the BJP faring with farmers ? that by election in Gorakhpur where BJP lost.

These are the people that decide who stays in office or goes. The most important lobby in the country.

Over the years many good leaders thrown out because they were unhappy

44,000 crores did not go in to pocket of less than 800 farmers.Read & understand it again.
The 44000 cr scheme , till Dec 18, ( time of the report) had reached 800 farmers. Kindly file RTI and get latest updates.

My understanding of it is that they want to give out max up to Rs 6000 per month or 72000 max additional income per year. So, a person with income of Rs 6000 per month will get Rs 6000 to make it Rs 12000. A person with Rs 8000 will get Rs 4000 from govt to make it Rs 12000. A person with income of Rs 3000 per month will still get only the max of Rs 6000 to make it Rs 9000.

I think the Rs 6000 per month figure may been decided to take a jab at the "Rs 6000 per year for farmers" mockery that was announced in the budget this year.
 
Another politician promising doles out of the pockets of income tax paying average middle class Indians. I am all for upliftment of the poor and the less fortunate, but this is hardly the way to go. Unless poll promises are made accountable, these politicians will continue spewing BS.

RaGa has never told how he is going to fund and this scheme would ensure poor remains poor and willingness to work would go down even further.

This will be beyond the thinking of Modi and his blog minister and other assorted bhakts


He can raise corporate tax by 5% which will yield 5,00,000 crores. ( 5% was reduced by BJP)
