Hi All.

Unfortunately I bought a PL 30 from Rahul, TheITWares on Dec 13, 2010 for ~9XX/-. With 1 year warranty.:@. Happy camper with it for over 6 months. Used it extensively as its my ONLY earphone. And the fit with it is just great.

It conked off like 3 weeks ago. No misuse. Always use my stuff very well. Send it to Rahul 2 weeks back. waited one week for status. Today he told me to give my mobile for letting me know.

Now comes the newest RMA policy i have ever heard.

He doesnt have the product in stock anymore. So he will give me credit note for ~4XX/-. And thats the only option i have. He cannot replace that IEM with similar one or similar value. He says thats how RMA works for all distri's.

I said i bought i for 1 year warranty. And not selling to you. so u cant depreciate it. Either give a pl30 or replace with similar value one. He said no can do.

I said this is straightforward cheating. He said i can consider this as whatever i want. And i can do whatever i want.I said ok.

I am sure Rahul can vouch this is the EXACT conversation. No Masala Added.

I dont have any extensive RMA experience. I only RMA'ed Benq, Samsung, Dell, WD, Seagate, Belkin, MSI, Transcend, Logitech, Intel products. And i only had this EOL issue with samsung and they replaced that with a 1 GB RAM instead of 512MB i gave. no questions asked.

This is not a RANT thread against Rahul or ITWares. Coz I dont want to waste my time with people like that. IMO. So please no ITWares bashing. I lost a 1000 bucks item today. And i am not going to take the 400 bucks from him. He can keep that.Just wanted to know ALL are treated like this. I am not the only one.

Thanks for reading this.

Same kind of thing happened with one of my friends recently, he bought 5770 an year back for 8.5k, it went bad and the dealer had no stock for the same model, he asked my friend to add some money and get a new series card but there would be depreciation cost for an year of usage.

My friend got the value of his previous card as 6.5k, added some more and got a 6850.

I dunno if this is the thing that should happen but IMO, one cannot add some depreciation cost during RMa of a product in warranty period, either replace it or provide with a same valued current piece, that should be the rule. Otherwise, we are not getting the full time warranty as claimed by the company.

^^ Yes that's exactly how its done you used the Earphone for 7 Months so how am i liable to pay you the full amount i know your not selling it to us but the same cannot be replaced and that's the reason why customers are issued credit notes in such cases, tatzy we offered you a Credit note. Just coz your not selling it back to us doesn't mean you have not used the same for 7 Months that will count for something right?

Soundmagic products have pathetic build quality, there are many soundmagic owners facing the same kind of problems, even my MP21 conked off after few months of usage.

Had to learn the hard way too.

I wonder why the HELL do i buy stuff with warranty now. :S. Its like seconds market. And also this means we can use their logic to price the market section also.

I am not getting your point correctly.
So I used my nokia phone for 11 months and at the starting of 12th month my Nokia phone was not working.. Nokia tested and confirmed I didnt do any damage. they replaced it with a brand New Nokia 5800 Phone( only that it will contain the continuing 1 month warranty).. People buy products for using and 1 yr warranty means any day in 365 days the product will be covered. even if it stops working after 364th day.
Am I missing something here ?

Also can some one please explain what is meant by 1 yr warranty ? does it mean if you dont use the product and then if your product fails then only company will honour your product ?

Then why did u say u give warranty for 1 year? Whats the difference between yours and grey? Better you dont give warranty r8?

And why wasn't this said when i bought it? Add this to ur rules so that people dont get duped.

All dealers should amend this then.

This was not done through us

Secondly your friend got 6.5k right not 8.5k so the depreciation did happen that's what we are doing here even if he was not selling the same to the service center.

Avoid Soundmagic IEMs - their TRS jacks develop problems pretty quickly. I am saying this because I have RMA'd close to 5 units (2 were done via Rahul himself and turns out one of them sent to him was acting funny and it worked just fine).

Not sure what was the issue with the OP's case. Was it a problem with the TRS jack?

This is the RMA process every service center/distributor follows.

Difference between Ours and Grey ok - We pay you 400/- Back in such cases in Grey they will not even look at you.

This is bad policy set by the dealer because by all counts the earphones are not EOL.
so this situation is a win for only the dealer :S.
Not fair is my judgement.

Mate. During the phone convo itself i knew talking to people like you like hitting my head on the wall.

And Keep the 1000 Rs, NOT 400 as u say. Seriously.

Yes Nokia has a service center here

If Sound magic too had it i would have got the RMA done through there it self Credit Note matter would not have come up. You are comparing Sound magic to Nokia.

Err Rahul, I dint say that this deal happened with you. So forget it.

I am just saying that hardware market is changing frequently everyday. Lets consider gfx cards. So much new cards coming out every year, all new gen cards with lot better specs than old gen cards. Life period for gfx cards is the shortest amongst all computer hardwares. But still most companies provide 3 years warranty.

Now, I buy a high end card with 3 years warranty, after 2 years and 8 months, the card dies, I go to the dealer and he says it is EOL, I wont get any replacement. So he adds some depreciation cost and offers me a new gen card. But why should I pay extra to get a replacement? The product is still under warranty. It is the companies fault that the product is EOL, not mine. Why should I bear the extra charge, the god damn depreciation cost? Thats not good at all. I have used the product for 2 years plus so what? I am supposed to use it to full extent, its my right. If you have not got the item in stock, its your duty to replace with something at same price range. Why should the buyer suffer?

With hardware market changing so frequently, we cannot get full warranty period for a single product because each product is EOL within 2-2.5 years.

How is it a win situation for me do u think i make 400 Rs. on a 900Rs. Earphone? Every time the dealer is bad right

I am going to email you a 400 Rs. Credit Note and send the earphones back toy you towards this - use it if u want don't use it if you don't want. But please don't post in such a way that you are doing some kind of Favor. This is how the market works and i am not doing any cheating or telling you anything that is not correct.
