31-40k RAID 1 supported setup

Hi Buddies,

Looking to setup a new build for a friend who wants to have a raid 1 setup.

I am not able to decide which RAID to go for.
Should I use
1. native RAID available with the Motherboard or
2.configure an OS RAID as mentioned here - Storage Spaces in Windows 10
3. Use a 3rd party RAID controller like the cheapest I found hereSyba SD-PEX40054 RAID Controller Card

Found following content for Software vs Harware raid
Software raid is much easier but I personally don't like it.
Quick reasons:
It's slower with big continuous files.
Other software could break the raid, but it's rare.
After a format you have to remake the raid, and you could lose everything.

Hardware raid:
It's slightly faster,
everything happens in the background,
Takes next to no CPU cycles,
You keep the raid and everything on it if you format. Even if you switch OS's.
It will never break the RAID unless you experience hardware failure.

Mobo: Asus A320M-K -5000,
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400MHz 8GB -4500,
GPU: Zotac GTX1050Ti 4GB Mini -11500,
PSU: Antec VP550P -4000,
Case: Antec GX300 -3500,
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1 TB -3500.
TOTAL -44,500.
 
I tried PMing you, to understand what you need, but no response from the the OP.

Firstly, there is (IMO) no difference between the onboard fakeraid and the cheaper, entry level cards. You wont see any difference, performance wise or anything - especially for RAID1. With the higher level cards, maybe, but still performances at the 99 percentile mark will match.

Secondly, Storage Spaces. its equivalent to software RAID. Additionally, you cannot make a bootable drive into a storage spaces RAID.

Since you are looking at pure RAID1, I would suggest to go with onboard RAID, or get an enterprise controller like the LSI one being sold by @Udit or get a M1015, which is the most entry level enterprise RAID controller card.

I would skip GPU and put the money on Mobo and processor.

Sorry for the late reply. Was tied up with lot many things

We settled on a T30 server : Dell Flagship 2017 PowerEdge T30 tower Server
Bought it offline at 45K last month and set up Windows Server 2016 at 16.5K without RAID
Will be setting up backup this weekend using Native Windows backup tool

We later realized that RAID is not needed as HA(High Availability) was not a requirement
