I got my RAID store 80GB HDD a month back from ebay. I opened it today and connected to PC. PC recognizes it only for a couple of seconds and again it starts scanning.
I am not able to copy even 5 mb of data, before it disappears.
I tried different ports as well....Nothing works...

Can some one please tell me the possible solution for this?
 
^^ check if ur HDD is getting enough power. You have connected both the USB cables rt? Also try it out on another PC and see if it works.

Worst case, u might have to RMA it (I guess Fortune marketing does the RMA).
 
Try connecting the 3rd connector (the one u left alone) to a free USB port on your mobo. The purpose of that connector is to provide additional power to the HDD thru one more USB port (so u get power from 2 ports).
 
Thanks Arvnd. I tried that too. Now the issue is that the HDD is detected properly. When I try to access it, it asks me to format. I tried formatting, but it is taking hours to fomat 80GB drive. yesterday it took 2 hrs to format 10% of the drive.. mean while there was a power cut.
I will try it again today and post the results.
 
^^ try running a scan on the drive using HD Tune. It can help to identify bad sectors or any other problems.
 
Thank you Arvnd. The issue is sorted out. I was connecting it to front USB and the power is not sufficient for it. I connected to back usb and its working fine.
