I was about to take the over-hyped Railwire connection.

I have called their 24*7 support and to my surprise they promised to provide me the connection in 24hrs.

But what was disappointing is they reffed to a franchise as they doesn't have end user service in my location.

The franchise person takes responsibility of providing connection form the Railwire main OFC line in my locality to my home.

For that he is demanding excess for covering those expenses.

Franchise price:

256kbps~Unlimited~500/-PM

512kbps~Unlimited~900/-PM

Installation charges:750/-

Railwire Price:

256kbps~Unlimited~320/-PM+tax

512kbps~Unlimited~620/-PM+tax

Installation charges:500/-

You see the difference. Now i find no point in going for the Railwire service as i can get BSNL for the same.

Me too facing the same problem now. Been using Railwire for some 6 months. Initially, it was 1200 Rs for 2 Mbps, became 1400 2 months later, 1600 4 months later and now 2200 last month. Railwire site still shows old amount. Don't know why...

Also, during peak times, connection has become too slow that sometimes pages won't even load...not to mention frequent downtimes recently...

It's getting really bad day by day. I am also thinking about changing to some other ISP.

I use the internet only between 7pm-11pm only.
I just need some decent speed just for browsing only.
BSNL is tough to get,as they need so many documents.
so still in dilemma whether to take this or not.
How is the uptime?Support?

BSNL has become very liberal in giving connections nowadays due to competition and drop in subscriber base. Broadband connection is very easy to get - Apply for a landline using similar type of documents required by private companies (HR letter address proof, photo proof, etc.) and then give the broadband request form.

If they've a line near your house, the connection including broadband is given within a week. The previous tenant in my house had a line, using which they gave me connection in flat 4 days. :)

The addl. charge might be the commission. Its always there if you take connections from Franchisees. But you need to confirm if they are allowed to collect it from the consumer. Call Railwire & ask them if the franchisees are allowed to charge users extra.

Support is somewhat good. Recently, the connection reliability has gone bad. Most probably due to higher number of users.

With Sify at least, the franchises/last mile providers had free reign in terms of installation and maintenance charges. So I guess its not very different in this case either.
