Hi,

I have a strange problem. I had originally installed 256 MB od DDR RAM in my computer and later added a 512 MB module for a total of 768 MB. With this configuration, I face a problem wherein my PC sometimes restarts on its own. This occurs totally at random, with no predictable pattern.

I initially thought that the 512 MB module may be faulty, so I took it out and the problem stopped. Later, I replaced the 256 module with the 512. Again, the computer has been running flawlessly with no sign of the above problem.

I downloaded some memory test utilities from the web, and they all report no errors.

Any idea what the issue could be? Is it a problem with having dissimilar capacities? Should I upgrade the 256 module also to 512? Or could it be some kind of hardware problem with my motherboard?

Yes, looks like dissimalr RAM problem, runs fine with some mobos though..Are both the RAMs working at same frequencies ?

Well i guess you should now use 512X2 , try getting an another 512Mb stick from a friend and using it on your mobo , just to be sure..

hey
you have a problem of either mismatched ram speed (chech ur ram speed in CPZ or physically ).Like if it's written on your ram PC6400 ,then divede 6400 by 8 to and you get and answer of 800Mhz,Like thsi try both ram speeds ,Or there colud have been a manafucture difference problem in htat case the latency timings differ .
so check it now
may be in CPUZ it may show lower speed because of quad pumped bus or some other reason but inspect it physically .:hap2:

Which memory test utilities did you try? Hope you tried Memtest (http://www.memtest.org/).

Did the memory test utility you try report No errors with Both sticks installed?

Have you tried testing the RAM in different slots to see if it is a slot problem?

Have you checked the SPD timings for both RAM sticks and atleast tried entering the timings/memory speed manually in the BIOS for them?
