Some motherboards specify that they support DDR3 1333Mhz Ram . Can i run a 1600Mhz ram on the same mobo ??
Is there a limit on the maximum Ram a Mobo can take??
What happens if i have two different clocked rams??
Some mobo say 1600(Overclocked) . What does it mean??

-Yes, you can, but it will run at 1333Mhz, as that is the maximum speed supported by your mobo.

- Yes, generally it is mentioned in the mobo manual itself. If it comes with 2 DIMM slots, then the max supported RAM is with 4GB (usually for older mobos) or 8GB, similarly with 4DIMM its 16GB

Worst case : you will get BSOD and your system will restart frequently.
Better case: Your RAM with higher frequency will run in the same (the lower one) frequency of the other RAM

It means that you can OC and proccy to a max and safe of 1600 FSB, according to the mobo manufacturing company

@OP, answers are given in bold
PS: Anyone, please feel free to correct me if i am wrong

I think BSOD happens if two different clock rams installed.:bleh:

Like i said, thats the worst case, but i have seen other cases as well, where the higher frequency RAM automatically operated in the lower frequency of the other ram.

I think CA50 already answered this question, no it wont be a problem but it will run at 1333Mhz only so what is the use of buying 1600Mhz.?

Using a higher rated RAM in a mobo rated for a lower speed will ensure that the RAM is clocked down to the lower rate.

Also, I dont think the performance differance between DDR3 and DDR2 will be very much if you have a C2D or something similar. But DDR3 will surely be cheaper.

^ hey mate, it seems like you have lots of query with this new upgrade of yours, instead of breaking your quires an posting in different threads, why don't you start a thread in the PC buying Advice sections.

That would be better, i guess :)

I'm done with the other Threads. The thing is if DDR3 is not required to get better performance i will just replace the current processor with a core 2 quad , or else i will get another mobo with ddr3 support.
