I had an 512Mb Ram Earlier in one of the RAM slot. Recently When i tried putting another 2GB in another slot the system is not even starting. I somehow feel that slot have been damaged/not working. Suggest what to do? Is it possible to repair or should i change the whole mother board?

are you putting both the RAM modules together??

try putting only 2GB in slots one by one.

could be mismatch of RAM.

@OP, wha do you mean by damage, have you broken the RAM holding clips or what, whats your mobo.

I think you can repair the above problem - broken RAM holding clips

For more info, please give us more details on mobo specs, ram, etc. It's possible that 2GB might not even be supported by the mobo.

Sorry for the Late Reply.

Core 2 Duo E4500, Intel Mobo Actually this is directly from lenovo so i don't know the mobo details.

Damage in the sense, once i have hardly pushed the RAM so i feel it has been damaged internally.

I tried Different DDR2 Ram's of Different Mhz in that slot.. None of them are working from 1year.. and system is not even starting when i insert RAM in the second slot.

Hope I am clear?

^ sorry mate, can't make out the mobo details from that link :(

Still what do you mean by damage internally, can you provide a pic of the damage slot?

2 slots and 4gb max means your motherboard supports 2gb stick..Just need to know the make and model of the ram you are trying to use with it. Intel mobo's are pretty choosy with timings so if both ram's are unable to agree on a timing then the system won't boot. did you try Inserting the 2 gb stick alone ? If that is not working still i presume you tried using ur old ram alone and still did not have a boot ? if this is the case and as i read you tried different other ram's **alone** and not in combination i can say your motherboard is gone bad...

I think if the slots are not damaged then its a mismatch and if the slots are damaged then go get it fixed in some shop.

Somehow its working. Had to adjust the RAM and its working fine. I think the side part which hold have loosen where RAM is not fitting straight.

Its all strange problem for me.. but its fine.. 2Gb+512mb
