Hi. I stopped following hardware about 5 years ago, so please help me regarding this.

I am currently using 1+1 gb (total 2 gb) ram in my mb http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3141#sp

I am using Athlon x2 240 processor. I need to increase ram to 4 gb. My motherboard has 4 memory slots, so is it better (money wise) to go for two more 1 gb modules or just buy one 4 gb module.

The product description says "Whether 1066 MHz or above memory speed is supported depends on the CPU being used." So can i use 1066 mhz with athlon x2 240. I am currently using two adata 800 mhz module.

Please help regarding this... thanks a ton..

Thanks Crazy_Eddy..also .. I just called the dealer, they dont have 4 gb module, they have 2 gb for 1700/- and 1 gb for 800/-. so i was going to go for 1 gb since my software need just above 2 gb ram. is it alright to have 1+1+1 gb ram in a 4 ram slot motherboard (something about dual channel, i dont know).. Thanks.

Yeah dual channel access won't work unless you have pairs of sticks, i.e. (1 + 1) + (1 + 1) GB. Whether dual channel access will make a performance difference to you depends on your apps; you can test and see.

Thanks for your help.. actually one of my friend had a 2 gb module.. so i put 1+1+2. Since i am using xp it is showing only 2.75 gb in place of 4 gb, but i need just above 2 gb, so okay for me since i got the ram for free..Hope there wont be any problem in using 1+1+2.

Once again, thanks for your help.
