processor-p4
current ram-256mb
HDD-80gb

i am myself a noob at all this....
he is asking about this particular ram-Flipkart: Transcend DDR3 1 GB PC RAM (JM1333KLU-1G): Ram

he needs to buy it online via a site with COD facility only...
other suggestions,links are required

His motherboard doesn't support DDR3 RAM.

If he wants to upgrade then complete overhaul is necessary.

Bro, this motherboard supports only DDR1 RAM not greater than 333MHZ.

So he can buy 2 X 1GB DDR1 333MHZ RAM (1GB module will cost u atleast 2500) for his mobo. It will be very expensive. I would suggest that he upgrade his mobo and processor to support DDR3 MOBO.

DDR3 RAM are cheap. You can get a 4GB DDR3 for as low as 900 RS.

You can refer to the Intel SPecs PDF for details: http://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&rc...sg=AFQjCNEpWBxfLULUEIeuIRs9md3l-kz6Qg&cad=rja

Reminds me of the same question another noob asked me!

Anyways, if he is ready to splurge on an upgrade, tell him to do so. Else, add 1GB DDR 400Mhz of memory, will cost around ~1K.
