My laptop - Sony Vaio VPCEH15 - is having one DDR3 1333MHz OEM RAM and one free slot.
I am planning to upgrade it.
Should i add another 4GB or 2GB ?

2+2GB will work in dual channel,
But still 6GB(2+4GB) is better than 4 GB(2+2GB) ?

Which is best considering cost and performance ?

Also, any recommendations for brand ?
Gskill / Corsair / Kingston / Transcend ?

What is your usage ?

Have you considered SSD ? SSD is probably heaviest upgrade a system can get.

Usage is normal multitasking - firefox with multiple tabs, eclipse, vlc... But ram hits its limits and i can see heavy swap usage and slowness.

Haven't considered SSD because of high cost per GB. :banghead:
BTW, can we install SSD along with stock HDD ?

2GB RAM is definitely a downer. I would suggest getting a new stick of 4GB and 120GB SSD costing around 5000 along with selling your old stick. Also about using SSD along with stock HDD is possible by using a Optical bay caddy. This will replace optical drive. Hence you can not use optical drive any more as you need to remove it to make space for caddy.

It looks like this
