Graphic Cards Ray-tracing & quad cores

Thats why I say DCC is one area where more processing power is still a need...You can have 10 times more powerful processors than the fastest conroe and you would probably still ask for more...

Imagine the most complex raytraced renders just being click and done...sadly that would require atleast 100 times the speed of conroe 6800 and a bit more perhaps....

I'd read that a single frame of Monster's Inc. took about half an hour to render :P So, despite what nvidia and ati brag about "pixar quality" graphics in games, we still have a very very long way to go :)

Agreed... All this talk of real-time raytracing is just hogwash. I remember back in the day raytracing on an Amiga 500. 3 light points in a single frame took anywhere from 15 mins to 1 hour to render. We used to gather in parties and browse through others' raytracing samples. It was like artwork at the time and I think it still is.

But to achieve 60FPS? Maybe my children will get the chance to do that...
