RE-0 or RE-1

Hi audiophiles,

well as the title suggests i am confused between the two offerings by Head-Direct: The RE-0 and RE-1

Currently using EP-830 and Dell BH-200(the ones i like more).

What i like more about the BH-200 is that they have more clarity than my 830s and still have enough bass to satisfy me.
Last week i had the oppurtunity to demo the RE-2 and was blown away by their clarity. Now i have enough moolah to buy the RE-0 and hence would prefer them for being the best IEm available out there in terms of clarity.

For me clarity is : Clear vocals and easily distinguishable music i.e one can easily recognize the instruments being played and their positioning or soundstage as audiophiles call it.

However i lay equal if not more emphasis on the vocals, so i want to buy those IEMs that would bring out the vocals without diminishing the soundstage. Also if not the least i would like the bass to be present not in a dominating but rather a complementary way i.e it should neither be too low nor too much.

Also the music that i listen to most i slow/alternative/modern rock and rap.

Also if an amp is needed to be bought, my budget for the same would be around 3k.On other hand how would GO-Vibe Derringer suit RE-0.I've read that a warm and transparent amp works wonders with the RE-0, giving it's analytical and sometimes boring sound a welcome change.
I'm asking this because Dark Star is selling his Derringer for 3k and i live in Chandigarh it would be easier for me.

Any questions that will help you answer my query are welcome.

Also the source will be lossless or 320kbps MP3.

If you liked the RE-2 you will fall in love with the RE1.Even the RE-0 is good but its too neutral, balanced and super clear. only problem is they are not fun sounding like RE-2/RE-1.

I think the RE1 is the best suited for your needs but still go thru these details. will help you decide. (feeling lazy to type again :P)

And yeah you will need a decent amp to get the best out of the RE1 . Even a Fiio E5 should so minor noticeable improvements ,but if you have the moolah you can always go for something better.

Metalspree was looking for a amp for his RE1 and ClieOS (head-fi IEM reviewer) suggested that the RE1 sound good with a analytical , neutral amp (that's what he prefers). Also going by his impressions on the GO-vibe derringer it is supposed to be a very clean and neutral amp , so I guess it should pair really well with the RE1.

First get the RE1 , try it out with Darkstar's Derringer(if he doesn't mind ) and buy it if you like it or else you can look at other amps like Ibasso T4/T3(~100$) etc later on.

Feels really good to see more and more people appreciating high end audio gear and taking interest in investing in Quality Audio. :D. I guess my upcoming reviews of some mid-range/ high end IEMs won't go in vain .

Thanks for clearing my doubts. I will go with the RE-1 for now and maybe dark star would let me try first on his derringer. But as you say that derringer is a neutral amp, i think it will be a great combo as RE-1's dark sound signature will get a little boost towards analytic nature.

Thanks now will have to wait for the shipment to arrive at amarbir's.

Also Faheem does amarbir provide the original exquisite carry case that comes with the RE-1 or is it the regular run-of-the- mill packing as with RE-0 and RE-2.Asking this as i have damaged my 830s and 630s due to keeping them in pocket as such and don't want the same to happen to these

RE1 sounds amazing at least for me when compared to RE0.I hated RE0 big time as its more of a flat IEM and RE1 has amazing mids and soundstage.RE1 definitely needs a better amp than the E5.I am getting the JDS labs bass boost cmoy. Its one beast of an amp for bass.

I would not recommend the T3/T4 if your looking for laid back music and more of bass.Meir Corda are more of analytical amps and they do not suit my taste

OP my recommendation would be RE1 paired with a Mini3,Cmoy.Get a nice earphone pouch off ebay there are loads of them or get a altoids tin.

Yeah T4 has more of bass along with somewhat flat mids and laid back treble. The RE1 already has a bit low treble so T4 won't probably be the best amp for RE1 .Its' good as it has a nice textured bass boost (fuller bass ) and warm sound . So it well might just add good bass to the RE1 with less transparency.

not really recommended with the RE1. It might work well with a RE 0.

The T3 on the other hand is more open , neutral and dynamic ,so it might work well with the RE1.

Coming to the AMB Labs Mini 3 . It is supposedly better than the ibasso T3/T4 and has a very clean & analytical cold sound.Very balanced , accurate and transparent. Maybe a bit too neutral like the RE-0 .Even the bass is there :)

I personally feel the Mini 3 would be the best amp for the RE-1. If I had a RE1 or if I get one in the future, will most probably invest in the Mini 3.

Also in another month or two ,Fiio will be coming out with the E7 and E9. The E7'swill mostly be under 100$ and going by the specs of prototype , it looks very promising .

source : head-fi threads .

My vote goes to Mini3 or the promising E7 which should be good in specs.
Mister X of head-fi has quoted me $145 including international shipping an AC "charge" adapter and NiMH battery for the Mini3.According to the review for the Mini3 is nuetral amp and goes very good with the RE1.

The main issues with amps is that you have to hear them before picking them up as they sound different with different IEMS'.I would say invest in something which is cheap and good like the Cmoy's (brand new one by John Seaber is $64 +shipping).Rockhooper and Caffine versions are also good .Bahhh so many amps in the market to confuse us:@.Wish there was a shop in India where all these amps can be auditioned.
Waiting for my cMoy :)

Well i can invest even around 5k on the amp but the problem will be getting them. Also it seems that even if an amp sounds good with one kind of IEM it might not work out with another.
Right now i am rooting for the RE-1,though i'm going to audition both the RE-0 and the RE-1 and then decide. However auditioning itself doesn't solve the problem as the true signature of the IEMs comes out after burning. But still since RE-1 has the musical nature to it, they won't be a bad investment at all.

However if i go for the RE-0, which would be the amp to get along with it in the budget of 5-7k.If i go for the RE-0, then it would be clear that i liked their neutral nature while auditioning them, so the amp i would be looking for should be warm and a little bassy just to bring out a little bit of musical nature from the RE-0, while retaining their exceptional clarity.

Well after all this thinking, it seems the work can be done either way -

1)Get RE-0 with a warm and bassy AMP.
2)Get RE-1 with a neutral and forward AMP.

Since the price for both RE-0 and RE-1 is similar, i would ask for suggesting an amp for each case in the budget of 5-7k.If the work gets done in 5k i won't like to spend 7k(need to buy 1tb also)
P.S. : unless metalspree has a few more hdds to gift :ohyeah:

I have same taste as OP's and dont want to open thread for same question again. But my budget is somewhat limited.Coming from pl-30+E3 which of the following would be a good option for me for a budget ~4K .

1) RE-2 +E5 for 2.5k

2) RE-0

3)RE-1

4)Klipsch Image S4

I have read a lot of thread about last three IEMs on Head-fi but i am not yet sure which one to get.As an amp is out of budget should i go for unAmped RE-0/RE-1/Klipsch or settle with RE-2 and E5.

@Faheem: Dude i have read that post so often i suggest you to put it in your siggy and point ppl to that.

^ In your case either a unamped RE-1 (get a E5 atleast later on ) or the RE-2 + E5 both will be good . Ofcourse RE1 will be better. Decide according to your convenience and whichever is lighter on your pocket :).

Yes ! Perfect .
1) with the RE-0 a warm amp like the T4 will be good.
2) with the RE-1 a neutral amp like the T3,Mini 3 will be great.

Your lucky to get an audition of both the IEMs before buying.Trust your ears and buy.:hap2:
