Hi,

I have to transfer 80GB + data from A DESKTOP WITH WINDOWS 7 TO A LAPTOP WITH XP.

I donot want to install windows 7 on the laptop. I know there is a very simple wizard in windows 7 that can transfer tons of data "INTO" a PC with windows 7 FROM A SYSTEM WITH XP/VISTA ETC. I have used that inbuilt tool to transfer data from the same laptop onto my desktop BUT i am unable to transfer the data back to the laptop AS THE LAPTOP HAS XP INSTALLED IN IT. I know there is a very simple way of transferring data from WINDOWS 7 TO A SYSTEM WITH XP. Can someone copy-paste detailed steps on how to do it? I donot have internet at home. So i need steps now to take a print out and follow steps at home.

Vivek.

download & install this software on both PC's.

after installing run this on both PC's,it will then detect the PC's on the network.

after that it's just simple drag & drop of files from source to destination. :)

umm well thats simple, just share one of your folder in your laptop ( xp ), access that folder from your desktop ( se7en ) and send the files over your laptop.

U sure this works and is that simple??? U tried it? :(

ok, i will try to explain in very simple steps for your better understanding..

connection between your two system ( laptop + desktop )

--------------------------------------------------------------------

i guess you already have the lan setup, unless try this,

go to your desktop's nic ( lan adapter ) put this settings

ip: 192.168.0.1

sub: 255.255.255.0 ( or press tab for auto creation )

gateway: blank

dns: put both dns blank

on your other system i.e. laptop, put this settings on your nic

ip: 192.168.0.2

dns: 255.255.255.0

gateway: 192.168.0.1

rest blank

transferring files

------------------

while configuring this on windows 7 , u will be asked to identify the network type , just select home.

now go to your laptop, choose a folder on which you want to put your files, right click on it and go to properties or press alt+enter, go to sharing tab, u will notice a little text msg 'i understand the risk... bla bla..' click on it and select 'just enable sharing', press ok. now go to your desktop, open my computer, click on address bar type \\192.168.0.2 and you will be displayed all your shared folder in your xp power laptop.

guess it will solve your issue :)

^ I didnot have LAN set-up like this and was informed this is the way of doing it. I will try this. Thanks man.

@Rockfella.
do not create multiple threads for the same problem all over the forums.

What I suggested there has already been mentioned here. Thank you for wasting my time.

If the laptop and the PC are connected via a network then you can simply share the folder/data("right-click"/ "sharing and Security") you want to copy and access it from the laptop by entering the IP address of the WIN7 PC in explorer.

If that doesn't work, try doing it the other way round. Share a folder on the laptop and make sure you give read/write access. Now access the shared folder from WIN7 PC by entering the laptop IP address in explorer, and copy the required data.

If that doesn't work, download IP Messenger from here
IP Messenger
Run(no need to install) it on both systems and send files by drag-n-drop in the chatbox.

Both the systems must be connected via a network for any of the above to work. If you are having any network related problem then please mention that.
Hope this helps.
