I bought a 26 inch LCD the past weekend from Croma. Initially it was working perfectly, but after a couple of hours, I noticed that the picture vanished from the top part of the screen. Thinking it may be a problem with the signal, I hooked up my DVD player and got the same results. I took a photo of the problem just in case it was a temporary problem. Sure enough, the next day, when I switched it on, the problem was no longer present but reappeared after some time.

I called up Croma, they asked me to bring the set back to the store. Even though the problem did not occur when they tested it, they accepted the photo that I had clicked and promised to send me a replacement set which arrived today.

I'm not giving any special props to them, this is the minimum that I expect from any retailer. However, I think it should make people cautious about buying from the grey market, especially from other countries, it's only when you have a problem that you realize the value of the sales support and warranty.

well any time u buy in a grey market its like gambling and depends on ur luck,i have bought most of the stuff from grey market and none have gone wrong so far,and if u have good relations and are a frequent buyer he would replace it my case he has replaced a panasonic cordless phone which costs 8500 just because the CID didnt work in india exchange, also my brother got a refund for a o2 neo phone which he had bought for 21k after a month of use he didnt like it ,since it used to miss calls compared to nokia ,so he gave it back and a got a refund of 20k.

Refund !? :O

It's virtually guranteed you will never get a 'refund' with a retailer all they will offer is 'exchange'.

you are lucky.most dealers will not even give the time of the day once the product has been sold.:cool2:

It depends mate..

If you have a long standing relationship with a decent gray market dealer, they may be even better on the customer service front than a regular official dealer

My experience from Grey market has been good. Till date bought two camcorders and one digicam. Great price and no problems!

That was my point exactly, as long as you have no problems, the grey market is the better alternative. Its only when something goes wrong that you realize the benefit of a B+W and a retailer of good standing.

They seemed pretty helpful! Whats your point?:ashamed:

haha, i bought an LG phone from the authorized dealer , and the 'authorized service center" in trivandrum is a hole in the wall shop. i got my phone replaced twice , and the third time , he said the images were supposed to come with black bars on top and the bottom, and that the phone was crashing because of a virus infection ( when i said i ran linux , he said linux is unsupported and said the warranty is then void).

Sometimes the original stuff can be a pain in the ass as well. I'm not buying anything LG , ever
