I bought the Canon A720IS & now need rechargeable kits with batteries... 2500MAh is the one I am looking forward too... there are many Chinese ones available but I would like to get something reliable...

Which ones are suggested especially in light of Camera requirement... People with kits like these & who are using rechargeable batteries for their digital cameras please share the experience & suggest me a good kit...

Prices & availability are welcomed....:)

i have been using camelion 2700mah, working great since past 2yrs...very low self discharge value...get hold of sanyo if you could source one...as for the charger, imo any charger will do...

u can also take a look at sony 2500mah batteries costs Rs370/pair.

also note that there are planty of fake batteries out there so buy ony from showrooms, like sony world etc.

have been using the sony ka 2100 mah batteries with my powershot A640.

i have nt really keep a track on how long my batteries last but they have given me far better performance than expected.

in general a charge has lasted at least for 250-300 odd shots with about 30-40 % with flash during evening times.

well if use sony batteries and charger the low end models will take 8hrs to charge a 2700mah sony AA batteries, but the higher end models available can charge in 2.5hrs like the sony BCG-34HRE4 costs 1695 includes 4 AA 2700mah batteries.

Does any kit comes with the 2500 MAh batteries & charger... The camera manual says it needs 2500MAh batteries & min. 2300 MAh... I went to the shop & the dealer told me to get only the type specified otherwise it can harm the camera...

naah nothing will happen if you use capacities more than the rated. Don't use lower capacities though.

It is recommended to stay away from the "higher end models" models coz they charge fast. :P Eventually your battery fails to retain charge and discharges very quickly.

now this is confusing to me, might be missing somehitng but as far as i know mah is the discharge rate.

using lower or higher capacity will lower or increase the battery life. you can actually use a AA pencil cell the disposable ones also. that wont kill the camera, but then you will be able to take lesser number of shots out of it.

can somebody else shed more light on this ?

Yepp I know this but I am as confused as you are... the dealer was adamant on this... I told him that MAh will only increase the capacity of the battery to hold charge.. its the voltage which matters most... but he was like its your camera & it will go bad..... if you don't get the right capacity it will harm your camera... :S :S :S

no dude, you are correct. Any NiMH cell would work. Only that the no. of shots will vary.

yup.

@racy1 and bitsandpieces: Those batt ratings given are just suggested ones. The number of shots will decrease, thats all. No harm can come to the camera. And since when did ppl start listening to such dealers? :P Their technical knowledge can usually fit into a realy tine nutshell . n conclusion, he doesnt kno wat hes talkin bout,

1. just get decent cells like sanyo, duracell or sony from sonyworld. Try to get originals ONLY else ur done ;) Tats why i prefer sony batts from sonyworld ;)

2. Get a normal charger ~8-10hrs ones The fast ones will reduce the life of ur batts :)

well get the sony BCG-34HLD2F costs 975 comes with 2 AA 2700mah batteries costs 975 or BCG-34HLD4E comes with 4 AA 2500mah batteries costs 1150.

^^34HLD4E is a timed charger, meaning it will charge the battery for a specific period of time before cutting off. it doesnt detect the amount of charge in the battery and hence in some cases may over charge leading to shorter battery life.
better get 34HE4 as it detects the charge present in the cells and cuts off only when the cells are fully charged. good for charging batteries even when they have some charge left over. costs about 1650 with 4AA 2500mah batteries

^^^ Rightly said.

It used to be expensive in india, if it still is then get it from USA through relatives or KMD.
I got it for Rs 1600 with 4 2500mah cellswhile it was around 2400-2500 in india. Pretty good charger.

ALthough i now use uniross charger pack which came with 4 2500ma battery(Not a timed charger) for Rs 1100 and it works preety well except that the charging time for 4 cells together (My cam needs 4 at a time) is a lil more than 24hrs. Pretty slow but these uniross batteries which i have, they got pretty low self-discharge rate and last a very good 450-500 shots.
