Recommend an operator in Mumbai

I was a long time user of MTNL. I had to relocate to Pune (kind of temporary) and MTNL roaming on BSNL was a pain so I ported to Idea because they had home tariff in MH&Goa. Idea network is excellent but there is a lack of transparency so I shifted to Tata Docomo which also offered home tariff in MH&Goa. Network was not as good as Idea but usable. Since the last year or so, my need for data connectivity has become important and Tata Docomo data connection fails repeatedly. I am not big data user, using it primarily for whatsapp and beginning to use it for Skype as well.
Chances are bright that I might move back to Mumbai shortly.
I would like suggestions about which operator has reliable data connectivity in Mumbai circle without costing a bomb in data and voice plans. It has to be GSM by the way as I would not like to change the Galaxy S2 and the iPhone 4 which are being used currently. An operator that provides home tariff in MH&Goa would be an added advantage and so also 3G at a reasonable cost.
I would be willing to go back to Idea as well if their data connectivity is good.

get Airtel postpaid.
i am using their services since 2006 and tariff is same in any circle mumbai or maharashtra.
for 3G,850 for 6gb unlimited.[DOUBLEPOST=1364634669][/DOUBLEPOST]I get to use either idea or vodafone for 3g.

@pratikb - I'm sorry. Perhaps I did not explain too well. I will not be a big data user. Currently most months I hardly use a small fraction of the 1GB that I get from Tata Docomo. Our total expense for both phones clocks in at under 850 a month probably. Actually not really. We use the Tata Docomo 59 pack extensively for calling Canada at 1ps/sec. The ISD alone would probably be costing us over 500 a month.
I tried looking at their postpaid plans. Very confusing. I need two plans; one for self and one for my wife.
My wife uses perhaps 300-600 minutes, largely local, a little bit of STD to MH&Goa and very little of other STD, probably 100 SMS a month and say 200 MB of data.
My usage is usually less than 100 minutes of calling, mostly local, hardly any STD, less than 25 SMS a month and maybe 500 MB of data. Our data requirement would increase if we started using Skype more.

take this plan which I use,

250 rental
1000 local minutes
250 local national sms
200 mb data either 3g or 2g

take other connection as add on to this connection.[DOUBLEPOST=1364639388][/DOUBLEPOST]skype video chat works fine at EDGE also it clocks in around 30-40 kbps and voice call works fine at 15-20 kbps bandwidth.
for isd,i recommend aircel.
on aircel, i recharge for 18 rs per month for same 1 ps per second.

Your plan looks great.
How good is Aircel voice and data in Mumbai and Pune?
BTW is there any minutes limit for that ISD pack? With Tata Docomo, I was not aware there is a 450 minutes limit. I only came to know when we exceeded it.

Aircel is pretty fine.
I have been using it as second connection since 5 yrs and very happy with it.

Recommend to you and i dont remember seeing any limit or rather hitting any limit.

Thanks.

Any idea if Aircel Mumbai circle number can be used in Pune on home tariff like with Tata Docomo? Or will they treat it as roaming?
Same question about Airtel, though I think in Airtel's case it will be roaming.
Secondly, the plan of Airtel which you suggested, do they have a reasonable ISD pack for USA Canada as add on to this scheme?

As long as you continue on aircel network,no roaming charges.
You can get latched on to vodafone idea but that will be classic roaming.

Airtel postpaid.its same tariff in maharashtra.

Anyone here has actually used Tata Docomo and Aircel or Tata Docomo and Airtel to be able to give me a comparison? Need comparison for Mumbai and Pune.
I really don't have much of a problem with Tata Docomo voice. But with data there is frequent disconnection. My other friends who also moved from Mumbai to Pune said that when they took a Pune connection (3G) the data connection is pretty solid but the 2G connection is unreliable for them too.
Pratik, I have written to Aircel CC to confirm about free roaming in Pune.

Using Docomo for the past 3 years. Not happy with the data service. Would suggest to avoid.

Another stupidity which they have done is that you cannot use 3G in their roaming circles. I even put a 3G pack at Pune and they activated ILD calling to china rate cutter instead. Got the refund for the pack after a huge verbal argument with CC and bumping to nodal.

Airtel - Mixed bag. Pay more and get better services. Call rates won't be cheap.

Aircel - Heard its data services are better now. Cannot truly comment. Have used it 4 years back and at that time it was bad.

I actually have two issues with Tata Docomo which motivate me to port out. One is the poor data connection which disconnects randomly. The second is the problem with the 59 pack. There is a 450 min limit to usage which is part of the fine print and not told up front when recharging. The SMS you get tells you about the date validity bit nothing about the minutes limit. Many CCs including people at the gallery are unaware of this limit. The worst part is that there is no way for the customer to see how much of the limit is consumed and how much is left. Because of this, on one day I lost 460 bucks because I thought the call was at discounted rate but was being charged at full rate.
I want to make sure that the operator I port to has a better data connection than Tata Docomo in both Mumbai and Pune, and the operator wont charge me anything extra for using the Mumbai circle number while roaming in MH&Goa.

take aircel without second thought.
their customer care is far better than great tata docomo.

I was also using docomo when it came to mumbai.
I gave up on them long ago.one sim gave to aunt as back up and other sent to sis in usa as back up.

I am happily using aircel/airtel and cant find any reason to port out of both.

Thanks pratikb. You've been of immense help. I guess I'll initiate the MNP when I next come to Mumbai. If I know by then whether I am returning to Mumbai for good shortly, then I might even port back to trusty old MTNL which gave me decent service for years before I moved to Pune.[DOUBLEPOST=1364881672][/DOUBLEPOST]Guys, I have been hearing about Aircel cutting down services in some circles. Any idea what is the future of Airtel in Mumbai?

I would recommend Tata Docomo .Tata DoCoMo is providing high speed internet service. I have used 2G data packs. It's quite good. Latest gprs plans of 2013 are Docomo offers gprs plan from cheapest rates to maximum packs based upon the data usage. 5 Rs gprs plan is available for a day validity and free data usage of 50 mb 2G service. If you are looking for 30 days validity pack, then there are plans at Rs.77,126 and 249.

Puh-leeze, Docomo net is as good as useless. Even other operators net is better - I am using Docomo for quite sometime now. And - if you download some MB ~ the data connection is cut and you need to get it back on the phone.
