Hi, My dad is thinking of buying a car for ~20 lakh. The two options he's considering are VW New Jetta Comfortline AT and Skoda Laura Ambiente Diesel AT(not sure about exact variants).

He will be using it for his daily commute to office(no chauffeur)and a drive down to kerala once or twice a month(though hilly roads).

His main requirements are

1.Diesel

2.Automatic Transmission

3.Good Ground Clearance

at the moment my dad is leaning towards Skoda because it has more VFM but he really wants to buy the Jetta because he likes the look and the VW brand name.

I'm not sure about exact prices but I think the price difference comes to about 1.5-2L,the VW being more expensive. So I want to know about features in the Volkswagen which justifies paying this premium. If it were up to me I'd just buy the Jetta but I need a few points to convince my dad to pay a little extra for the Jetta.

A few points already considered,

1.The Jetta comes with Curtain Airbags

2.Not sure about this but I've heard it has more rear seat space(which is important for me since my knees usually touch the back of the front seat)

Please give me a few more points supporting the Jetta.

Some people have had a bad experience with Skoda A.S.S. So do check on that in your area, talk to existing owners etc.

Among the two, the Laura definitely seems more VFM to me. But the Jetta is no slouch either. Though it is difficult to justify paying the premium.

The Cruze AT is an excellent alternative but rear space is at a premium.

Cruze is nice but Dad's not interested in Cruze at all. He's heard bad things about its mileage and he prefers German/European brands more.I'll try finding some more on Skoda A.S.S.

SKoda and VW owners please tell me about the A.S.S (in bangalore preferably).

Actually Vinayak Skoda in bangalore is pretty ok. But then again it is not worth supporting a company that doesn't care about its customers.

The Laura eyes closed (but mind the skoda service)

The Jetta looks too much like the vento

i didn't care much for the jetta initially but when I saw it in person at the showroom right next to the vento it looked amazing! Its really big and has a strong road presence, the size difference is enough to set it apart from the vento.Laura on the other hand is a smaller car,Thats why i prefer the jetta.
