any recommendations for a good weighing scale?

been looking through ebay and some sites from past hour. usage is to weigh parcels for courier and other household items from time to time like old paper, books, etc (before giving to the scrap dealer).

can i use a kitchen weighing scale to weigh paper/books/ raddhi? would the glass top break?

so what should i get, with budget of 1k max?

and do we get single 9v batteries here? many scales on ebay seem to point out they require a single 9v battery. if these are the batteries with both +ve and -ve on top, then sadly they are not available where i live. tbh, no shop keeper here has any idea of a 9v battery in my place.

anyone having one of these things/ knowledge of this, please reply. :)

i personally wont recommend the digital ones, use simple mechanical ones like these

eBay India: BATHROOM WEIGHT SCALE (item 300508708323 end time 04-Jan-2011 09:30:00 IST)

i got the same mechanical one from drmorepen comes with 6 months warranty , cant find the link of that on ebay now :(

this is the seller from where i got the weigh scale , u can contact them to list if they have in stock !!

^ wat kind of items do u want to weigh

AFAIK , it can weigh almost anything except for very small micro weights

How about giving expected range that you want to weigh and accuracy required? Also, I don't think its vfm to get one if the main requirement is to weigh scrap as you'd need to get a platform weighing machine to conveniently do that and that is overkill for your purpose and budget. I've used a few table top weighing scales(0.5g to 25kg, generic brands) which cost in the range of slightly under 1k to 2.5k and most of them ended up going kaput under a year.

want to weigh -
i think the mechanical ones wud just be fine and they will srve u really long, no haslle of battery or anything , i dont know how accurate the battery operated ones are , but mechanical ones just do the job perfectly

I have been using digital scales for few years both from eBay and imported, all work very fine, one digital scale some time gives different results for standard weight so what I do is just weight 3 time sof raverage result, even mechanical ones will do that error. If you want to weight small parcels like 100-200 gms, mechanical ones are of no use (one listed here for body weight) ... get the digital ones. If u dont get 9V battery at yr place, order from eBay.
