I want to buy a gas room heater. I have seen lots of ads about gas heaters. Are they safe? Anybody using them? Which one should I go for?

I don't know about gas but my a friend of my friend bought a Koryo room heater for 700Rs from Big Bazaar in Bangalore. He's very happy with it.

Delhi might be a different ball game though. Not as cold in B'lore.

Using the Delonghi gas heater for 4-5 years at Shimla. No probs at all, extremly effective. Must have spare gas cylinders/connections though....

@silvik thats what i had in mind. any particular model? how much does it cost for a oil filled radiator one? do you use LPG for it?

The Delonghi is on LPG, runs on three heat settings. Use it on max, and a full LPG cylinder will last approx 50hrs.

I'm also using a heavy duty koyo kero heater @ my home in Palam Vihar Gurgaon. It's an overkill even with the current cold wave conditions. This one (Dont know the model) is a Kero guzzler-can go thru' 10liters in about 10hrs but heats up a 1000(yes thousand)sq foot room. There smaller ones available in the market.

Would suggest the LPG heater as maintaining the Wick of the kero is cumbersom.
Also Kero costs 35buck a litre and then you get adulteration to top it all!!!

How safe are these LPG heaters ?

Natural Gas heating systems are the leading cause of carbon monoxide deaths in the United States, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. When a natural gas heating system malfunctions, it produces odorless carbon monoxide.

With no fumes or smoke to give warning, victims are easily asphyxiated ie posioned by the carbon monoxide.
