Hey Guys,

I am looking for a Network Attached Storage, mainly with Streaming Media Capabilities, Backups & Raid Configuration.

My Budget is about 15k without Hard Drives, & I could only find a Patriot Memory NAS Javelin S4 (Ebay Link)

Storage Space should be 8 - 10TB.

So are there any other options within this price range. Or should I just Build one again!

^ i can build my own NAS using the existing System I have (see signature) but i'd still have to buy a RAID Controller for Raid 1+0 & Hard Drives..

A good RAID Controller would cost me 10 - 15 k any ways, unless there is a cheaper option for RAID 1+0.

BTW does a Dell PERC 6 Raid Controller PCIe be compatible with regular desktops? as far as i know its LSI.

Perc 6 is a Long card and to run it you would need a 800W+ PSU, and would require 2 free PCIE slots near it as it has a battery with it as well, and would need multiple Sata to sas interposer cards or a SAS to Sata converters as Perc6 is a SAS raid controller,

I don't think that's true, we have Dell's R410 server which has Perc 6 Controllers Integrated & H700 Controller on a 500 Watts redundant Power Supply. So it won't require 800Watts+, is that somewhere you read?

Thats something i was told by my colleauge who trains people on poweredges about a year ago, you are using a 600W with a GPU (GTX 250) , on T410 you dont have a dedicated GPU, so i was calculating keeping that into consideration, not sure about the make of the PSU which you're using

Let me check the specifics and get back to you on that, but you would need a bigger chassis for sure as the card would be pretty thick with the integrated raid battery and perc cards tend to heat up considerably high (when on high /full production) and would need good air circulation inside the chassis

If you're not looking for an enterprise solution; consider some of the boxes available from Iomega. The StorCenter boxes are quite good.

for your budget please forget buying raid card. all you can do is software raid. which aint bad.

i am using freenas and setup software raid5.

# Stormblast

Read / Write Speeds on that Raid?

it depends on your switch and network. i am using it on gigabit switch with dlink gigabit lan card.

throughput goes to around 200-300mbps. i havent checked it in a really long time. will let you know on monday by manually copying a file.

Yes that would be an amazing price. but its not in India, I searched on ebay & well you can have a look at the link

http://www.ebay.in/s...-All-Categories

All the listings you're seeing on eBay are essentially dealers importing it for you from the US.

Consider the iccworld or SNS route for #[member='mpaspc'] 's link or the tigerdirect link I've suggested. You might also want to contact Iomega/EMC or their distributors directly, I do know that they they do Import and sell in limited quantities.

Trolling through eBay also gave me this http://orders.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ImportHubViewItem&itemid=270952238845 now THAT is a stonking deal right there.
