Recommendations: Entry level digicam

I'm blowing about 6~7k for a entry level digicam for my sis

what i want

3~4 megapixels + optical zoom

or

higher resolution with only digital zoom

flash

lcd viewfinder

Reliablity + Ease of use

basically it should be point and shoot.. no fiddling with iso modes, exposure settings etc, should get a decent 1280x1024 image at default settings

sould have decent memory( at least 256Mb.. if not inbuilt , whats the cost of an extra 256MB card for the camera?)

mini usb connector a plus( though its not a problem if they use a proprietary connector)

can stretch budget a bit more if there is something really worth it at that price point :)

EDIT: my buying options are limited to shops here in TVM , so nothing like ebay etc.. :)

whoa! i was guessing by RAM price trends, 2x memory= 2x price :D

Nope.. ram prices got nothing to do wid MMC market..
its in full swing.. and prices have been crashing ever since !! :)

1gb ~ 975 (last week at Sara Mkt - Mumbai)
 
The aforementioned Canon model uses either MMC/SD
Either would set you back by approx 1.1K for 1GB !!:hap2:

Really cheap compared to the the other memory (DDR's) these days!!:@
 
how about the kodak c 533?

it costs only 500 bucks more and is a 5.1MP cam....

how does it compare with the canon powershot A 430?

I just got a quote of 900 bucks for UMAX/LEXAR 512MB SD card, and 1400 for a Kingston card.. Is it worth the difference? cos i can get a 1GB UMAX/LEXAR for 1600

i know kingston IS better than umax or whatever, but is it worth a 50% premium?
 
i had a nice and friendly talk to the dealer about SD card prices.. :D he came clean and offered me kingston 1GB at 1.3k :rofl:

picking the cam up today eve prolly :)
 
canon A 430.. 8.7k.. where did you get the a520 for 8k :S

I'm picking it from the tvm canon distributor... dad deals with em a lot :D

I asked around tvm a lot, my regular PC dealer gave me a quote of 8.5k, and a studio asked 10.5 k for it :rofl:

That I ha picked on a US trip... on a side note though, dunno about TVM but if you know the right places in Chennai, you could get the 520/530 for 8Kish locally ;)
