Im not very sure if this is the right section. Pardon me if i am wrong. I have a DVD player which is divx compatible. Does that mean i can directly write movies i have in avi format and run it in the player ? Any assistance is really appreciated and thank yous in advance.

Absolutley, just burn the movies as "Data DVD/CD" and play them.Just one thing though, just because the extension is ".avi" dosent mean its DivX.The movie has to be encoded using the DivX codec. There are many codecs which produce ".avi" files like "Xvid","3ivx",etc.All will give you ".avi" files but your player wont be able to read them as it's not "DivX" codec.
The quickest way to check your movie before burning it is to play it using
KM Player.Google it and install it.When the movie is playing, hit "Tab" and it will give you details of the movie.Check the video part and see what codec is used. Also make sure the the audio is in "MP3 format".

If your movie dosent match the format then it probably wont play inspite of it being avi.Your only other option is to covert it using DivX converter. Also from now on before downloading a movie make sure its compatible with divx players.Hope this helps.:D

Divx dvd players play divx, xvid, mpg1/2/4 codecs in .avi, .ogm, .mkv, mpg/mpeg extensions. I know my philips 5106k model does, your dvd model may not play xvid if its an old model.
