Hi all,

My seagate 320GB go flex bought on Nov 2010 not dectecting,I expect it's dead, since the warranty cover for 3 years, vendor asked me to bring it back for RMA procedure.

I never RMA'ed any hard disk yet, the replaced disk will be a new one ?, how long warranty will cover for the replaced one, will it be again 3 years or the rest of the period from the date of invoice of original disk ?

-regards

Jijo

RMA'ed drives are generally new one, but in-case of shortage of HDDs, repaired (refurnished) HDD are given.

About the remaining warranty, it will be 3 years from the date of purchase of your HDD.

Generally they'll be sending it to seagate service center. seagate will RMA it and send it back to him; which in turns he'll give to you.

replacement will be refurbished one probably (or new otherwise), the warranty will continue from the original date (it will not be 3 years again).

I've been RMA'ing Seagate HDDs for the last 3 years and have got a refurbished drive everytime. The customer care states that this is company policy followed around the globe.

the probability of new or refurbished HDD depends on luck, because some gets new and others gets the refurbished, which are generally marked as "certified repaired"

Don't Worry man. Internal HDD's RMAd are all re certified drives. Your luck is better with external HDD's.

Although Go Flex, Last time when my friend had to go with RMA he gave the HDD over the counter, they asked him to wait for 15min.

They called in 5 min and handed over a fresh piece with all the boxing and seal intact. We were happy and left. Back home we checked and found out that the new drive carried exact 2yr warranty remaining. The old one was used for 11mths. Experience was g8. This happened over a yr ago....last feb. Now I hear it different though with shortage of drives.

I suggest you to go over there personally and handle the RMA. The experience u gain o'er there is g8. Wish that u get a new drive.

Seagate RMA is unpleasant. Not to mention the probability of getting a recertified drive in replacement is very high!

Moreover, the entire process takes minimum of 10 days, from the time you submit the drive to accel, and the time you get it in your hands.

And the best part is you can never know anything about the drive unless accel sms's you that the drive is back.

From my personal experience I can say WD is a lot better than Seagate.

I have sent a Seagate drive for RMA, and its been a week, and i dont know where it is

I atleast know that they will take my year old drive, and replace it with a recertified repaired drive, and of the same capacity (yeah of course I want a larger size one in replacement

)

To answer OT questions

1) Most probably the replacement will be recertified Drive

2) Rest of period ( But I recently rma'd a drive on last day of its warranty , they gave me a recertified drive with 3 months warranty left )
