Registry Help!!!

I had installed Norton Internet Security but didnt like it (too high mem usage). Inspite of my best efforts to uninstall it, it just wouldnt go. So i ended up deleting it (in a fit of rage). i thought there would be few registry entries which would be easy to clean up. Now i found out there are around 1000 symantec registry entries (found them using TuneUp).
Using Regorganizer i'm unable to remove the entries (i can replace them, but i dont know what to replace them with)
Using TuneUp, one has to delete each entry manually (one-by-one). very time consuming.
Cant even find these entries with RegCleaner.

Any suggestions please?

I use ace utilities, but never try to delete reg entries manually.

First thing, reinstall norton & then uninstall, then maybe clean it up with ace utilites or any reg utility of your choice.

But dont get too finicky about cleaning your registry, you will end up with more problems than you would solve :D

p.s. - always have back up of your registry & the entries you delete.

^^I tried reinstalling norton too but it wouldnt go!

Anyway i managed to go thro the registry manually (DANGEROUS) and deleted all the symantec i could find. some wouldnt go. only 26 such entries left. i'll let them be....

wise decision, just leave them. hope you dont have any problems, norton seems to be a bloatware, i hate applications which leave tons of junk on uninstall :) & dont forget to reboot.

^^ i actually deleted some other entries (god knows what they were), re-booted. as long as windoes starts and get connected to the net.... no prob for me...

And i agree with you on "bloatware".....

Try RegSupreme Pro, it's is the best registry cleaner.
RegCleaner is just the last free version of RegSupreme before JV16 bought it and is nowhere good enough.

Registry Mechanic is crap, it can't find half the invalid entries RegSupreme Pro does. But somehow it's the most popular...

^^ sorry i didnt make it clear... I tried reinstalling it, but it said i had to uninstall the old installation. I thought at least there would detect the older installation and help me uninstall it (because whenever i tried to uninstall it from the control panel, it would say that the it could be run only by using the MSI (installer)).

Okay this is a bit painstaking but this is how to manually remove the uninstallation information from the OS. Let me know if this works for you, it has for me a couple of times.

Enable the viewing of hidden files/folders and head over to Program Files. Now you'll see a hidden folder called InstallShield Installation Information. Inside you'll see many folders (depending on how many programs you have installed) with names such as {9B94BE6F-7CA3-4C40-A266-62667FF746CC} as the like. Now here's what you have to do:

One of these folders ought to contain the installation information for Norton. But because the names are so cryptic, you'll have to manually enter each folder and execute the setup.exe file and see what runs. Just cancel at the first option you get because your aim is to only figure out which is the Norton setup.exe. Once you do figure out folder containing the Norton stuff, just delete the folder altogether. Now Norton should install properly without giving you any errors. This had worked for me with another bloatware program whose name I can't remember right now.

I hope this helped.

Thanks for that piece of info Tracerbullet!!!
BTW i chked... no Norton there for me.. Also, you dont need to run the Setup to find out what s/w it is.... just open up the setup.ini file and voila! the name of the proggy is there..
