Back in the good old days I go the Inspiron E1505. It came with a "Dell XP disk". So when I got a brand new harddisk, I just popped in the disk and installed XP.
Unfortunately, laptops nowadays do not come with windows 7 disks.
I am wondering, if you change your HDD to a bigger one, how do you install windows 7 again.
From what I could read, you can create a recovery DVD, but it checks for an existing windows 7 installation before installing.
any thoughts?

You can create recovery discs if you want to restore the laptop to the exact same condition as you get it out of the box with all the trialwares/crapwares installed but it saves you the activation hassles.

Regarding windows7 key,you can call the microsoft india customer support and tell them that you need an activation key for your genuine windows7 as you have done a clean install on your laptop, they will ask for your windows7 key printed on back of your laptop, thats all.

or

you can use this guide:

ABR (Activation Backup and Restore) | directedge.us

if u have a genuine copy, u dont need to worry, call MS or the OEM people, they will help u out with the installation and activation issues.

Actually, this is for my laptop which will be have Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I plan to make some recovery disks, so that when I change HDD I do not run into trouble.
