Reliance and Youtube

I recently upgraded to Reliance Broadnet 1mbps UL. (Wired).
I have been using torrents ~95KBps and http downloads at around 110KBps which is pretty satisfactory.

The only issue I seem to face is with Youtube. A lot of videos still buffer.
Indian content (IPL, videos from Indian users etc) seem to run fine without any buffering, but most of the stuff that I watch still buffers. Did anyone else face the same issues with reliance. Can a DNS change help ?

honestly, i think there's something wrong with the reliance network right now.

last night they had a dns problem which lasted for 2-3 hours for me. a handful of sites were not opening at all... and i couldn't even ping their ips. this included gmail at times believe it or not. and at that time, youtube was working but it was slow. since this morning, i'm getting major speed fluctuations on downloads as well. i've never seen these kinds of issues on reliance in the last 2-3 years (except when we had the undersea cable cuts). something is definitely up.

yup something is wrong with reliance since yesterday.Pages are opening slowly and was not able to login to TE and gmail yesterday.

Today the net speed has gone down.

I am not on Reliance but severe DNS issues last night for me as well. Many sites including Google weren't opening at all.

No idea if my ISP gets their bandwidth from Reliance, but it could be so.

i don't think it was reliance specific. 3 other friends of mine in bombay also confirmed that they had dns problems with sites not opening. one is on mtnl. the other was on some local cablewalla's network and the 3rd i don't know. there seems to be no mention of it on the usual indian broadband forums though. i'm just glad mine is working properly now.

It's due to undersea cables being cut confirmed. I just received an SMS from airtel (they sent the SMS to me even though I already disconnected my airtel connection half a month ago *doh* )

can you provide more details that were given in the sms?

a quick google search showed that there was some problem with an undersea cable in the middle east. apparently, it affects india as well..

I'm afraid the sms didn't say anything else.. These are the exact words "For Your Information: Due to undersea cable Cut in International Link, you may experience drop in your Airtel Broadband Speed. Regret the inconvenience caused"
