what kind of hardware is reqd to setup the same ?
what are the range limits in the city ?

what are the actual speeds one would get on these plans , lets wait for some1 using this to confirm back.

^ No idea about range, etc, but all you need is a PC with a WiFi card or a laptop with onboard wifi.

wait til u all hear abt the plans BSNL got in its pipeline ..

Bloody loosers haven't given me a connection for 8 months, screw their fookin plans!

WHF is this?? These plans are pathetic.Wimax is supposed to be much faster than this. Rs1.8k for a 600k connection on a wimax (which is much cheaper to setup than normal wired broadband) is absurd.real wimax is supposed to be 10 times faster than this.

there goes my dream to use a slingbox in india!!

--------------
BSNL comes up with decent plans but it will be 2050 before those crapheads give me a net connection.Applied for one over 4 months ago.Still no response from them....

Oh i was just referring to the plans .. :)

a whiff of what i got from a govt official .. was kinda exciting ... but i dont have any confirmation as to wen they ll launch those and how efficient they gonna be ..

i was afraid somebody sooner or later is surely gonna ask ..

me and my big mouth ..

As of current standings, we have HU 500 with 2.5GB dwnload limit..

they plan to get this increased to 5GB

Along side that what i heard was they wd be gettin the plans like:

HU 100/- with 1 GB dwnload limit

HU 200/- with 2 GB dwnload limit

HU 300/- with 3 GB dwnload limit

HU 400/- with 4 GB dwnload limit

HU 500/- with 5 GB dwnload limit

i dont have any confirmation on the speeds .. so cant be even hinting on that part..

That was for HU plans which were being discussed.. cudnt get the info on the UL plans but if those are true .. then UL shd be something to watchout for..

cuz they cant offer anything on the GB's downloaded front .. maybe they ll get something in the speeds dept increased.. like they did by increasing the speeds from 256kbps to 2Mbps for the HU plan sometime back.

But i again say that these are Unconfirmed.. dont be ready with ur bricks and bats if they change their minds.. :)

Nope dude, it comes with an antenna, modem(which resemble a power strip, connects to your PC / WiFi router thru an ethernet cable)

600k for 1.8k is s%^#, and their service sucks here in B'lore....no net most of the time, it takes min 2-3days to get it fixed and those guys don't even know to crimp the cable.:@ :@ :@ If BSNL unlimited speeds were upto 2Mbps, i would jump to that. 256k UL plan is bit off.

:D

That HU stands for Home User Dood ..

UL is for Unltd.. (just thot i shd mention this before u guessed that as Ultimate Leechers plan ;) )

Well .. if they are surviving with the 2.5GB limit .. they sure aint gonna be complaining abt doubling the limit ..

u see thats the HOME USER plan .. meant for Daddys and Mommys and Grannys et al ..

not for ppl *ahem* like us..

Thats y i am on the Unltd Plan @ 256kbps ..

(btw some ppl do survive on the HU plan too .. HU has the Unlimited download slot between 2AM-8AM, and wen u download @ 2Mbps for those 6hrs.. it suffices for em .. but if u ask me .. i wdnt want my hands tied at the back like that..)

Depends on your usage really...

I don't go on a video streaming binge every day so a 2.5gb limit is ok for me.
Even so, I got 2 x H500 accounts, so it's effectively a 5gb monthly limit for me which is way more than enough plus the 2mbps NU.

This way I end up paying 1k monthly (same as 256k Unl.), can download almost 4gb daily, and still not have all that downloading interfere with my daily browsing since it's all between 2-8am.

While with just a 256k Unl., I would have to be leeching every second of the day just to download 2.4gb. Nowhere enough I say :D
Not to mention the 24x7 leeching would leave no room for other things.

^^ rightly said ..

my main inclination for the 256UL pack was due to the power cuts here in my region ..

u wd leave the comp on for the nite and wake up in the mornin and Mum wd tel u over the morning coffee ki beta lites went out as soon as u slept .. and then u go like Goddamn... There goes my plan for the movie tonite..

Else i too wd have opted for 2 x HU 500 plan like urs.. who wdnt want to surf @ 2Mbps now ...

Guys wanting to opt for the Wimax plan please be warned.

Wimax is a new technology with standards under development and new equipments coming up.

The technology involves a Wi-max antenna beaming the packets over radio signals.

So it is prone to disturbance, signal limitations and all.

One of my friends has taken the Wimax from Reliance in Bangalore and the signal sucks, download speeds is just ok for a 300K UL plan.

Its like your mobile signals...If majority of cell phone networks don reach ur place:( den be double carefull before takin wimax connection..:cool2:

On the other hand i wudn mind sacrificing a bit of speed for being able to showoff my ubersexy connection working on the latest technology...:ohyeah:lol

a friend of mine in mumbai has been using this for more than a month...and i have been using this in pune for just less than a month....the speeds my friend and me get are good...abt 30-35KBps for dnlds on a 300kbps UL...the service is quite good in mumbai as per my friend...but it has been not that good in pune...lot of downtime initially...but nowadays it has reduced a lot...the only thing u need to have to use this is a lan port...rest all is setup by reliance ppl...since im sharing this connection with friends, i am using a router too...no problems on that front...only issue is that u have to log in to the reliancebroadband site to use the connection...and it gets logged out sometimes...so u will have to keep an eye on that if u r scheduling ur dnlds...rest is fine...i had to take this as this was the only option for me in my area...and its working for my just fine...occasionaly u have to shout at customer care ppl to get ur connection working...but it works as a stress buster for u too...being able to thrash ppl :)
