^ I wish you could understand the magnitude of such issues other than the "old-thread-getting-bumped" issue.

Instead of those sarcastic comments, you might as well contribute your ideas towards the betterment of this community :|

A thread can be bumped if it has a valid reason ..

1) did he have a valid reason to bump this thread?
2) Did he add anything constructive to the thread?
3) Did he give out any advice on how not to fall into the same situation as the OP

I wudnt have been sarcastic if the answer to any of those questions was Yes .. But obviously you can stop acting like a prick and while u r at it stop giving useless advice

I feel he has a point which we should look at unless you are too much into getting irritated if a thread is getting bumped after a long time. Whats you problem if someone has a similar issue. Should he be asking you and create a new thread ? Geez.. grow up.

I guess you have a useless prick stuck some where that needs to be looked at.

If you notice his post and your, his seems to be a LOT constructive.

Where does he say he say a similar issue?
I doubt u r a rational man otherwise you would have answered the questions i asked in a more sensible manner ..
Prick stuck up somewhere? Dude u really need to grow up ... Anyways i am not gonna debate with you anymore since it seems u r very adept at it and will beat me with experience .. As they say idiots always beat you with experience they have ...

Futhermore as i said this has happened 6 months back .. DO u think he can get his IP now n all that crap?
Be a lil more sensible (i knw for guys like you its hard to resist that urge to be a prick)

I noticed that he did bump an old thread. Usually we are serious on bumping old threads with an irrelevant post but he did offer help on a legal front which *may* be useful to someone and left it alone. So let this one drop instead of turning the thread into a fest.

I am sorry if you find anything useless but I found my moved with the thread & being at consumer right activism I thought of giving my views.

To be specific:

1) did he have a valid reason to bump this thread?

Yes I do, coz I was moved with the way the OP suffered.

2) Did he add anything constructive to the thread?

I did by giving my views about tracking the IP.

3) Did he give out any advice on how not to fall into the same situation as the OP

I didn't as there can't be any if the seller is not genuine. There is no full proof protection, no matter you are dealing on ebay or paypal or craiglist or whatever.

I have had experience of dealing with international buyers but what has ensured me is that if seller is spurious you can't do anything but to do the follow up work.

If you feel anything I said is not worth, better be silent, as who knows others may have found it worth reading.

This is a public forum & its not always important that anything that will come up will be as per your liking.

Enjoy your stay.

It may be an old thread, but the bump helped me to come across this thread and read the posts and suggestions as i keep checking the new Posts links as soon as i visit TE.

While you are being helpfull and we are helping others here can you please tell me how to track down residential Address from the IP address? As i remember that the IP addresses in India are mostly dynamic and the ISP dont mantain a record of the number of IP Addresses issued to a user .. Even it is possible i doubt that the OP will be able to get the IP address after 6 months or even for that right now from a Chat on the Internet .. A more valid advice would have been if u told him to contact mods here to give his IP address whenver he logs next ..

Secondly what reason will you give to the police to track down the Address .. You just cant ask the police to tracker down each and every address you feel like .. They will only track down after a valid case is registered with them ..
Further i am pretty dure that internet fraud is not what the normal police will look into ..

What i am skeptical abt are these half heated Help attempts which achieve nothing at the end of the day

Let there be a validation process for member deals wherein the member posts his entire details via pm to the moderator. If mod is satisfied about he being genuine then the post makes its way on the forum. Just a suggestion.

I second that +1... with slight modifications...

Each member willing to open/execute a trade should have all the proper contact details uploaded in his/her profile (Cell no., address etc -- visible only to mods ) and then we should have a status indicator say "Verified Member", which mods can activate/enable for member profile after verifying the his/her integrity.

^ That does not solve anything. A scammer would post fake info anyway (unless he has peas for brains). And TE staff cannot go door to door verifying members.
