Diff colored medallions for reputations.

Like:

Green colored ones for hardware prowess

Blue for s/w stalwarts.

Pink for being Gay (okay that one was far fetched)

But do something regarding that. Reps have been reduced to a joke.

+1 !, i really love the idea by spacescreamer. Atleast less junk will be posted by newbs keeping in mind quality posts/threads :)

How about a spam thread with post count enabled? :D

Anyways, +1 for a change in the rep system.

There should be 3 rep bars imo :

1. : A Green bar for Public interaction : This should be extensively used in the General talk section. Members can give Green reps for some general help or a good post or some joke etc.

2 : A Red bar for Hardware knowledge : Self explanatory.

3 : A Blue bar for Software knowledge : Self explanatory.

4 : A Black bar for negative reps.

It is now important to do this. This would help distinguish a good member from a hardware or a software guru. Reps have lost all its importance thanks to the general talk section. I have seen people giving reps for jokes or even for a good sarcastical comment. There is no value of reps these days. By implementing this system, we can keep everybody happy and at the same time increase the value of reps.

Whoa ..

a separate thread for the suggestion ..? Thanks Mr mod :D

Now i just hope ppl grab this idea and suggest enuf things to bang the admin+mod's brains that they actually implement it.

U guys dont have any idea to include a poll too in here now na ..?? :P

If the person giving reputation has got no reputation points himself, then you get zero points :P

^^There's a limit... If a person has rep points under 20 or carry a title <user_name> is mysterious then you will not receive any points even he/she has a green bar.. Few things to note..

1. Rep Points : Reputation Points Earned by the User

2. Rep Power : The Maximum amount of point that you can give while repping some one..

3. Rep Title : Pointing the cursor to the rep bar give a status of reputation like user is mysterious /great and so on..

4 . Rep bars : These increase as the number of points increase..

The power to give points not only depends on the rep points but it also depends on the post counts.. Like a person having 100 rep points and low post counts give 6 points, on the same time another person having rep point 100 and has more post can fetch you 9-10points..

So its basically not the rep points that are taken into consideration while deciding rep power..

Integrating multicoloured rep point can be a tricky task.. Also a it would be difficult to provide multicoloured rep for a person who has both Hardware and Software knowledge .. So its upto admins whether they want to apply this or not..

Another problem.. It would be difficult to assign a particular colour rep for a particular person..

Lets see if it can work..

Its a nice suggestion and all but it would require a lot of investment ( in terms of time spent on this), so i don't think its worth it.

meh, coloured reps and all is way too much. not many folks even bother about them.

some suggestions from my side.

1. option to see a person's repped posts - not mine , but someone else's , so that i can see if they got their reps spamming or by really helping folks out. This is still a tall order, so I'll classify this as a "nice to have" feature.

2. disable the option to rep someone in general talk. I dont think that needs an explaination

2nd option: ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

Nowadays, it doesnt matter much frankly, but earlier, people like zhopudey used to post some really funny things in the GT section. TE should not become a hardcore tech site. IT should remain a little light as well.

i really dont think zhops used to do that for the reps. If folks want to post something in general talk, let them, but i dont think we need to be giving out incentives to people to post there

I suggested a generic system for the reps just like we got now,
not assigning every member with diff color.

If this indeed gets underway,
i bet u gonna enjoy it even more. Think of the scenario then, u got 5 suggestions for a thing like maybe an LCD television and all u got to do is look at who is the h/w specialist.
If nothing it ll provide u with a cue to start digging that person's prev posts if u got time that is.

Well thats y i suggested .. ppl DONT bother now at all.
so y do we have em, ?

I feared somebody mite suggest Removal of the rep bars altogether..
Thank God no body got that idea ... YET

So its upto admins whether they want to apply this or not..
Now thats needless to say ..
they are the Grand Daddys here and .. enuf said ;)

i had sent a pm regarding this suggestion when my house's foundation was being laid. And as i type, i am sitting on the first floor right now :)

+1
Ever been to FE? FE has this feature already although its really pointless there because we get reps there for spamming  but anyways I think this feature makes more sense on a forum like TE.
