Hi,

I'm interested in availing of a BSNL broadband connection in Bangalore. I currently posess a BSNL phone.

Can anyone tell me the procedure on which office I should approach for the same(I live at Airport Road.). Also, what proofs do I have to submit and how soon does the connection become enabled?

Also, should I be taking BSNL instead of Airtel? I am not aware of the schemes that BSNL or Airtel have. I just know that the Airtel 256K unlimited is somewhere around 800/- I think and the BSNL is Rs 250/-. Again, I'm not sure.

Thanks.

^ BSNL Unlimited is 900. Also I suggest you wait for Airtel's new 512k unlimited plan. Even 256k prices might drop.

u will need to approach the customer service center of bsnl for getting the broadband application form. fill up the form and take a photocopy of your latest telephone bill. also mention the plan u want on the form.

depending on the speed at which the ppl work u will get a demand note, which u shjould pay within 10-15 days, and after that according to waiting list u will get the connection.

hey where did gt o know abt dat airtel gonna launch 512kbps UL plan.can we relly expect dat because wat i thnk is that they will upgrade their speed but possibly not the ul plan.

@download787: There's another thread going where everyone's officially concluded that Airtel is unlikely to upgrade their speeds anytime soon. So I would suggest you stick to BSNL for now. I would also say that the Home 500 or 1000 would be preferable to the unlimited plan as of now. Since you get a transfer limit of 2.5 GB and unlimited transfers during 0200-0800 hours. Plus upto 2 MBps which aint there for the unlimited plan (I usually clock upto 1.4 MBps on the Speakeasy connection test.)

Also you dont need to pay seperately for your connection, they will include it with your telephone bill (at least that was the case an year back when I got it.. not sure now)

And one more thing.. Buy the modem.. dont rent it..

Thanks guys for the suggestions. 6pack, thanks for outlining the procedure. Last thing I want to do is go to the BSNL office and waste my time with those govt officials. Those clowns send you back for the stupidest reason...had a hard time just getting my telephone.

Did some checking on Airtal and was contemplating going for their 512 kbps connection @ Rs 799/- with 1GB limit. But initial cost of installation is too high..i.e. 2K for modem and 3.6k for router plus 500 refundable deposit and 500 registration charges( I don't want to rent anything) all coming upto 6.6K. Any idea what is BSNL's initial cost of installation?

@sydras: Whoops, thought download787 was the thread starter. Didnt check carefully.. My bad.. Guess my last comment was for you..

Far as I remember with BSNL the whole thing came to around 2-3K including the security deposit for the modem.. Not sure now.. It was an year back. Check the BSNL site..

www.bsnl.co.in

EDIT: Oh and it didnt really take all that much running around... They didnt have any engineers to send to my place to install the modem.. But i got it and installed it myself. The whole thing was through in 2 weeks.. But if anything goes wrong you will get next to NO support. Dont know how AIRTEL is that way..

sydras, I've had a good experience with BSNL DataOne guys .. I submitted the form in CTO (City Telegraph (or whatever) Office) and after 5 days these guys came with the ADSL Modem and installed it .. The link wasnt performing well and kept going down so asked me to wait for a day and they'll bring another modem to test whether the problem is with the phone line or with the modem ..
Anyway .. these people werent knowing anything about networking and all so they'd forgot to plug in the Splitter before the modem and thats why the problem started .. I figured it out and put the splitter and then modem started working fine .. and I rung them and told that its working fine now ...

Now after a day or two, my phone went dead and when it was repaired, net wasnt getting connected .. So I called these guys and within an hour they were at my place to test the connection .. They found that my phone line was having some problem with open connectors so they replaced it and SNR dropped ...

Try them, maybe you also have a good experience .. ... ... OR if you are unlucky, you may get company ...

Hi,..If ur lucky get reliance connection...:hap2: after using 2months i hav no disconnects soo far.. 300kbps UL for 1200rs , im able to DL or browse@ constant speed 38KB/s 1:1 ratio :ohyeah:

what's the initial setup cost? Airtel is very popular in my apartment complex. Will see if Reliance is available.

hi there,
the cost of getting an airtel connection is not that much man,i got mine a few months back, they charged me 500 for the installation,500 security deposit.thats it.i have rented the modem so no one time charge for that.i pay 100rs extra for the modem as rental in my bill.i have the 256k unlimited connection Rs 999 per month.service is awesome.max three to four hours to rectify any problems.very well informed engineers.the phone line u get with that is also very good man,std at 1re etc etc...

all in all i would suggest u go for airtel if u dont want any hassles.
