Graphic Cards Require practical information on gfx cards

Hi,

I need to know what the minumum AGP gfx card requirements are practically to run the foll. games at a somewhat comfortable frame rate of say 35-40 fps.

1) Doom 3 - 1024X768 res max with little or no eye-candy
2) HL2 - 1024X768
3) CounterStrike - 1024X768

Maybe 800X600 resolution will do also.

Can anyone let me know if they have actually played these games on say GeForce 5 series or GeForce 6 low end series cards....basically any card which costs 3K or below. I currently don't have an AGP card and require a stop - gap AGP solution for some time to utilize my system for game playing until I can find a good AGP card.

I don't want to invest in a new 6600GT AGP as they are just not worth the price for an outdated platform. The second hand 6600GTs currently in the TE marketplace are ridiculously overpriced (esp the 128MB ones) considering that one can get a second hand 6800GT by adding just 2-3K more. <IMHO how one can expect more than 50% resale value for a second hand outdated card even if it is under warranty is not justified.>

Some recommendations are also welcome.

Any 9800 pro level card should be enough. I played thru d3 the first time on a 9800 at 1024x768 all high with frame rates in the 40s to 50s.

Technically DOOM3 Engine was made with the GeForce 3 Ti 500 and its features has the base and they ensured that they utilize all its feaures and it will give a playable framerate of 30FPS on that GPU. So anything above that should be able to run Doom3 at respectable quality and framerate.

I'm not sure if they're still available, but I have a 5900XT which I ran on an AthlonXP 1800+, 512MB setup that works somewhat with Doom 3. 800x600 was in the 30s and quite playable with 4xAA enabled. HL2 1024x768 with 2xAA enabled in the 30s as well.

I'm not selling it (no more warranty) but just thought to tell you so you get an idea of what the GF5 series can do.

A 9800Pro would be pretty smooth at 1024x768 & upwards with D3.
