Hi there, I have night unlimited plan of BSNL 500,

which provides free, unmeterd download from 2 AM to 8 AM....And I am using Huwaei SmartAX 882 modem...

I have been downloading stuffs via uTorrent for some time now.......Keeping up all night and sleeping in morning hour...But now its not possible enough as my college will be opening in some time,

So I was searching something in this relation, and heard that it is quite possible to reset the modem during night hour ( i.e by 2 AM) by using some script....(So that we are segregated from normal hours)

And then we can use Task Scheduler to start uTorrent, hence download kick starts automatically........

So please help in this direction, so that I just have to keep my modem on at the time I go to sleep (suppose 11PM or 12:10 AM) with no downloads going on..

And with uTorrent close( however the download are kept started or paused while closing it, so that they can resume whrn uTorrent starts!!!), which also gets started after modem gets resetted (obviously this will happen with Task Scheduler help)

I suppose you people have understand what I want, I want all things to get executed automatically in PPPoE mode only!!!!!

Please

1) Give some specific explanation and mention it step by step

2) Provide link to the script as necessary!!!!!!!

3) And if some screenshots that can help your explaination, then dont hesitate to post them as well!!!!

Edit: People please dont get agitated, thinking I am asking for help,. and am being so bold and demanding....... Actually I got some scripts and support in this relation some days back, but I was not succesfully implemented......

^^mate be aware that your connection starts after 2 am otherwise something bad may happen ,,it happened with me!

I think i had already told you about this. I guess it didnt work. My modem is SamrtAX 880.

Try this.

Go to command prompt and do the following which are in bold

telnet 192.168.1.1 23 Since even you are on BSNL this is the default gateway.

Then you will get a screen which asks for username and password. The default is admin and admin for both. Then you will get a message login successful and you will get a $ prompt.

Type reboot and press enter. Your modem should reboot now. Let me know if this works. If it does writing a script for this is very easy.

^^

I dont know why, but the command " telnet 192.168.1.1 23 " is not working in cmd

Its giving following error

C:\Users\Himanshu>telnet 192.168.1.1 23

'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

C:\Users\Himanshu>

I am using Windows 7 x64.....

Though in the code you provided, when I hit Restart.bat then though the cmd and then Telnet Window runs, but then after entering the id and password when I enter reboot or restart it gives away error... Se for yourself!!!!

>> Morever in this way I have to manually enter the id and password....How will this be automated???

This is quite weird.

Make sure in the restart.txt there are no spaces after everyline. and no enter after the last line. And the .bat and the other files should be in C:\RouterRestart

Look At mine. It works flawlessly. I am on XP.

K.....this tool is also not working....

Is there any problem in my config, or is this a problem with Win7....

Scorpion he has used the same command.... As you mentioned!!!!

I wonder why not its working, I have kept default setting in my modem...

Gateway being 192.168.1.1

and id, password being default as well ===>>admin,admin....

I wonder whats the problem!!!!!

Simply install Firefox iMacros extension. then record the macros by which you restart your modem from modem configuration page.

the recorded macros can be scheduled to run any time. simple and easy process but it requires firefox

K will try that, hope atleast this one works!!!

Gaurish can you givea detailed description of this along with some pics to help, please!!!

Later...

^^

K I enabled telnet in Windows 7......Now the telnet command worked......

But the

reboot

command didnt,....

I also checked there in the manpage (when I enter ""?"").......... though reboot is not there .....but other commands which are there..... When I type them in.....Still still they donot work!!!

Maybe Win 7 must have this problem, maybe due to security or something!!!! ..... That it is not accepting these commands???

Anybody with Windows 7, who have used this reset stuff...... And is facing problem....

Even if you dont need it (atleast if you have BSNL connection)......pleace try(test) and tell me if it works......

Try using the commands

telnet 192.168.1.1 23

then enter id, pass - admin, admin...

Then test whether ""reboot"" command works on Windows 7 or not....

If not, please somebody can get me with the solution!!!!!

==>> For sure there is problem is accepting the reboot command,.....

And obviously if the command itself is not accepted ....Then how will the modem reset...

(Evene earlier.....when I was using complete set of coding.......everything opened...but there was a problem in accepting the reboot command)

So Win 7 user please try it and tell your experience!!!!!

After fighting with all these telnet commands to reset the modem I found an easier solution for Rs.600/= here in Mumbai. There are several version available so make sure you get the right one.

I bought a made in Taiwan Frontier Digital Timer - "TM-619-2" which has 16 programmable modes. It has a mains input and a 20 A rated changeover relay with both normally open and normally closed outputs. There is also a manual override button. I switch off the modem 5 minutes before BSNL's required time 01.55 hours and switch it back on at 02.05 hours. The timer is battery operated - standard one found on the motherboards and very accurate.

I then schedule my downloading software accordingly. Money you spend will be les than what it might cost you in one single error in not logging off at the right time. One word of advise for those using uTorrent . I have advanced my PC clock and internet time updating software by 5 minutes to preclude file checking every time the modem switches on.

I have been using this for about a year now and haven't had a single heart attack inducing bill.

BTW I also have a VSNL connection with night unlimited option which I use only during that period. It costs me around Rs. 450/=per month overall and get genuine 2 mbps download speed from 9.00 pm to 9.00 am depending of course on the source.

@himanshuaieee

Is reboot command listed in modem help page? if its not there ur modem doesn't support command rebooting. The modem commands are not OS depended.
