I own a Nexus 7 2012. It got full discharged yesterday and today I put it for charging. I normally do not allow it to discharge fully but it happened yesterday.
I connected it using its original cable and original wall charger. I kept it that way for 4 Hours but I never got any battery screen. The screen is totally blank and it won't turn on. I searched around and found some tips like press volume up+power or volume down + power. Nothing seems to work and the tab screen is still blank.
I plan to keep it connected to wall charger overnight and see if it does not any good but I have little hope since nothing happened in 4 Hours.
I know the cable and wall charger are fine since it does charge my android phone fine.

Anyone knows what to do ?

In worst case scenario, if it does not start, how to proceed with RMA or exchange ? I had bought this from Flipkart in month of November 2013. So I guess I am still within warranty.

i dont have experience on this... but i had similar experience in touchpad and i had to use different(samsung's tab) charger to power up. Once the screen was on, i used the original charger... May be you can try that...

Kept it overnight for charging. Still doesn't turn on. :(
I shall try iPad charger tonight but I have little hopes.
How do I initiate a RMA for this ? Should I contact flipkart ? Or google ? Is there even a way to contact google for replacement or fixing it ?

Ok has anyone done Nexus 7 or ASUS product RMA and can let me know how to approach them ? I have never done RMA of anything so I don't know the drill.

Called up playstore support and they tried to help me troubleshoot over the phone but it did not work. They told me to call asus as they can only help.
Called up Asus and they told me to send invoice email to get warranty approval since as per their system warranty says expired as I never registered the device when I had purchased it.
They did give me address of a service center in andheri east and I plan to go there next Saturday provided I get the warranty Approval before that.
Anyone knows which other asus service center is there closest to Borivali or Andheri, for nexus devices.

My friend bought the 32GB 2012 version 3 months ago and he had a similar problem to yours. Thankfully his battery was not fully discharged. He booted into the recovery menu and turned off the device from there. After booting up, his tab is charging normally.

My mom's 16GB 2012 version is still working fine. *touchwood*

Tried everything and the tablet seems officially dead for now. Doesn't boot up. I read online that this is a common issue with Nexus 7 and one solution is to pry open the back and disconnect the battery and reconnect again. But with the tablet still under warranty, I do not wish to be adventurous and will take it to a service center in Andheri on this saturday. I also got my warranty service approved through ASUS. This I had to do because as per their database, my warranty was expired since I never updated the date I bought the device. So they asked for my FK Invoice and they approved my warranty.

Have you tried a 30 sec press of the power button while the tablet is charging?
Yup tried. Even more than 30 Sec.
Also tried volume down + power to go to some sort of bootloader menu and then I think I am supposed to get "Power off" option and then it will power off properly and restart.
But no dice there.
I tried almost everything (there are just 2-3 options anyways). Yesterday read about the removing of battery thing but as the tablet is in warranty, I don't want to do that myself.
I have a feeling that the service center guys might do the same, remove back cover and reattach the battery.

OMG !!!

Nexus 7 came back to Life. I had no hopes. In office, I just connected it to the laptop's USB port and kept it. I actually forgot about it and it was connected to the laptop the whole time.
Initially the device would not show up under "My Computer". Then I decide to put the device back in my bag but before that, gave it a try. And voila, the grey battery symbol came. I pressed again the power button for few seconds and it booted.
Battery was 2% available. I have no idea why it would not work when connected to wall charger (after being dead). Now I connected to wall charger and its battery is charging. Using original charger and cable.
Saved from a trip to service center. Will try to ensure that in future, I keep it recharged and do not let battery level fall below, say 20%.

Now I am gonna root this thing.

@raksrules: Whoa! I just read through this entire post now and I'm glad that your Nexus 7 finally booted up and started charging again. I will most definitely keep this in mind and won't let the battery completely dwindle down on my Nexus as well.

However, the warranty thing which you mentioned makes me a tad worried. I bought mine from Flipkart as well last December... should I register it on Asus' website?

@Black_Hawk

Yes if possible please register. Else this approval thing Is always there so don't worry.

Also to everyone with nexus 7, in case your tablet's battery runs out and it refuses to start or charge, just keep it connected to a computer / laptop for few hours and then start the tablet. If it starts, immediately put on mains supply since battery will be very very less.

Thanks for the reply @raksrules, appreciate it!

I registered my Nexus 7 onto their website a little while ago and have the invoice provided by Flipkart with the S/No. safely filed up along with my other stack of bills and invoices.

However, will keep the battery tip in mind should the battery every completely get exhausted. :)
