bought a new optiarc AD7220S. Has been turning coaster after coaster with blank CD's . Tried out different OS's . different channels, different firmwares, but no luck.

horrible amounts of C1 and C2 errors. but the CD's burnt are mostly readable by PC CD drives, but my car stereo cannot tolerate them at all. plays the same discs burnt by my AD7190S and good old Liteon 5238 purrfectly.

I have a nagging suspicion that the shop will claim that since the CD's can be read on the PC. the problem is with the car stereo. But then again, i have the other CD's which play fine.

Or maybe claim that since it burns DVD's fine (havent tested that out yet) - " its a dvd writer only saar" excuse

Will "Too much errors" be accepted as a valid reason for a return in indian shops ?

I had flashed it to Liteon iHAS 322 firmware , but have reverted to stock, since I'll be returning the drive

i doubt they check if the drive is working or not when you RMA it, i got my asus dvdrw replaced coz the tray wont eject properly sometimes, noone bothered to check, just took it and gave me a receipt and i collected a new one a week later

Have you tried with different cd/ dvd media too? Most of the times ita Media + Drive issue, some media work better with specific drives/ models. Also, most dealers dont have the time to assemble, add the drive, and test media. Try lowering your burn speeds also, to verify the read of the discs in your car.

the 7220 is a slight upgrade over the 7190 methinks, and my 7190 handles the same disks well.

I'm using a bunch of Verbatims. writing at 8x :P

Hey trying never hurt anyone, unless u jump off a cliff :P Use some other brand media (Sony/ Moser ?) and verify, and then RMA with conviction.

Njoi testing...

I have a optiarc ad-7200A and it works absolutely fine :) . About your problem return it saying the burned discs do not work in your car stereo. Why don't you show them your coaster cds....

the 7200 is a true NEC optiarc . the 7190 and 7220 are rebadged liteons.

I'll be bedridden this entire week. will see what happens afterwards

^SHouldn't be an issue, as Rave pointed out. Give it to them, they'll return it quickly.

What happened, btw? Why bedridden? Get well soon./

Being naughty eh? in bed the full week, i wish i could get that much time in bed nowadays :P

heh, the shop accepted the drive with no questions asked , especially after my long story about all possible combinations I'd tried

But I gotta wait for RMA :(

Most vendors avoid repairs, its cheaper and better for them to replace. Esp. as trained and reliable hamaal are hard to find.
