I was on the lookout for the wireless combo for a while. in between i also looked and two friends from Te tried to help me but my luck was two steps ahead of me and the product was out of stock then.
I put the idea onto the back burner for a while. During last month i went to my computer dealer for a friend`s rig and saw a few genius wireless desktop combos. He told me he has taken distributorship for it and its really good and you will not miss the established brands.
So i thought why not give a shot to a new entrant in the market there was no harm as i was supposd to pay only if i was satisfied with the product.
Here goes my count on this product:
Firstly what the website itself tells about their product.
When i saw the product for the first time in show room i was impressed with the style of the key board.
When i opened the product package it was complete and brand new eventhough a demo product, which was a pleasant surprise.
First Impression:
Nice looking product. Definitely keyboard is worth n the doctor`s desk.
Installation was a breeze and all the special keys on keyboard were functional on the go. The product was recognised well by windows xp and i was using the combo in a flash.
my first usage experience:
In the past i had used the wireless mouse from I-ball for two days and my experience was horrible it galloped two sets of AA sized batteries in two days and hang quite often. so with that kind of impression in my mind and product from lesser known company i was sceptical.
But my fear was shortlived and i started enjoying the product very well in a few minutes. The mouse response was really good and i did nt miss wired mouse.
the feel and feedback on keyboad is really excellent and almost upto to mark with a few good keyboards. (i have used TVSE gold, few generic, I-Key, Samsung, Microsoft, Logitech keyboards in past).
In all first summary :
Impressed. thumbs up.
Problems that i encountred:
Initially everything was fine but one day i found mouse started to lag like hell and also hang inbetween sometimes. (especially while using opera as i have a lot windows open with so many forums and emails and sports and news sites open in addition to my subjects sites). It also lagged in photoshop when i opened 3-4 images to gether.
then suddenly out of blue struck the dreadfull BSOD. It was pointing to USB error. I looked for irq conflicts but therewere none. while trying to look for the culprit i suddenly realised that i have not installed the drivers provided with the bundle and i started using the combo on the fly. silly me hyeah:
I brought out the cd and installed the drivers and the application it installs with drivers. and the problem is gone : voila :cool2: :hap2:
There is a bundled software application which is part of driver and allows you to select functions of the scroll wheel.
Few things i would like to be corrected :
To keep the farm factor of the keyboard small they have forced some changes as arrow keys are together with the main board.
There is absence of indicator of numlock on or off (though there is a visual indicator on taskbar after i installed the drivers).
the unbundling of the function keys above arrow keys is missed a lot (the six keys comprising insert, delete, pageup, page down, home, end).
Out of above 6, 4 keys are adjusted right above numeric keys and home and end keys are bundled with numpad only, you have to turn numlock off to use those two keys.
Conclusion ;
really a nice product with satsfactory usage. except the small adjustment to make to get used the altered layout of home and end keys.
PS:
still i have not paid a rupee to my dealer as he is my friend but the cost is around 2200-2400 bucks.
Edit :
I forgot to mention about battery life, i have this product with me for about one month. Today only i changed the batteries of my mouse(those were simple eveready AA batteries). The keyboard has still those initial batteries going on.
IMHO this is a good battery life considering the routine batteries i had used. I have spare set of Rechargable batteries of 1600 mAh rating so i will use them later.
