Dude, this dv6 series looks great, specs are even better.BUT they have ZERO reliability, mine (dv6 2005ax)was doing really good for first 6 months but then the horror story started, lcd got replaced twice along with many other niggles, and THE PATHETIC hp service makes the matter worse.I thought I was unlucky, but after visiting the service centre for 5-6 times I have seen a LOT of people are extremely dissatisfied with the dv6 series.

60K is a lot of money,do a thorough research before buing those lappys.

In 50-60k budget you have many good options like:

1. Sony vaio EB36 which has i3@2.4Ghz+Ati 5650 1gb graphics card+4gb ram+500gb hdd+Full HD 15 inch screen, its mrp is 52k but you can get it for around 50k.

2.Dell studio xps16 with i5-460m+Ati 565v+4gb ram+320 gb hdd@7200 rpm+Full HD 15 inch acreen+1 year complete cover,it costs 60k excluding delivery charges and bag but you can get some discount through dell EPP.

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

3. Dell studio 15: take a basic model and customise it to your specific requirements, you can add Full HD screen,i7 cpu,blu ray player etc.

Hi red dragon/RS4

Any laptop with i5, ati 5650 or higher with full HD

Dell studio is not providing an opion for FULL HD.

Dell XPS is going tp 69,900 for ati 5730 and core i7-740QM which is out of butget.

Looked into xps 16 with ati565v(which i have heard that it is a clocked version on ati 46xx series)

Sony has no FULL HD with i5.

Please suggest.

1. An i3@2.4Ghz in the vaio is more than enough for your usage conditions.

2. Ati 565v in the xps 16 is the same as ati 4670 which is quite a powerful card. have a look at the performance benchmarks:
AMD ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 - Notebookcheck.net Tech

3.If you really need an i5/i7+ Ati 5730 then have a look at lenovo Y560 series,
you have i3/i5/i7 option with Ati 5730 but screen will be 720p,no 1080p option.

The dv6 models you mentioned are great spec wise, you won`t really find a better or similar speced vaio or xps at the same price point. But if you are looking for stability of your machine and reliability of the manufacturer, you better stay away from the HP.They are not even providing extended warranty on dv6 series directly (using their dealers for extended warranty, and these dealers can be nasty when you need them most)

If this is going to be your first laptop, then take your time,do an extensive research and try to get an extended warranty from the manufacturer. Most laptops start to screw up just when the standard 1 year warranty expires.I made the same mistake last year(while upgrading from a 3 year old vostro),bought the HP thing and last week I had to shell out another 60k for a MBP.

Are you going to be using this at home or to pass time while on the move?

Cos if it's the latter, let me tell you this: you'd be lucky to get through a 2hr movie without the battery running out.

I have an HP dv6 1045ee. It's a great machine, it handles anything thrown at it, and supports games to an extent. But only when plugged in. It's a downright nuisance if you need good battery life.

Granted, it's a last generation laptop, but new models hardly fare better...

Cheers,

Maestro

On the contrary, DV6 2010 has got a comprehensive design update and user reviews from notebookreview forum suggest a lot of issues that plagued old HP notebooks have been corrected.

NEW HP DV6 2010 User Review

One should not compare the issues of older 2000/1000 series pavillion with the current 3000 series, as they're completely different products.

As far as product support goes, that really is region/reseller specific and shouldn't be generalized for the brand as a whole. I can personally vouch for terrific after sales service here in kerala.

Hope it helps! :)

^^Is it possible to buy extended warranty from HP directly even for the 3000 series?A friend of mine bought a new dv6 last month(ofcourse against my advice)It is doing perfectly fine till now,but it runs really hot.Did not run HWmonitor so cannot really tell the exact component temps but it really gets hot within an hour of normal usage even when all the vents are open in a non a/c room.

Hi All,

Thanks for your useful and valuable suggestions.I finally went to croma two days back and checked the models and finalized with sony vaio vpcea 36 black. It is cool and perfect, weights less.

I did not like the build of y560 it is bulky, some have even the SPECs are good.

Thanks guys,

rgrandhi

I brought it from chenoy trade center(CTC) in hyderabad and it costs be 54K with no goodies got the sony bag along with it.

No i did not buy extended warranty. It cost extra 5k . Do you realy think it is needed?
Its better to buy an extended warranty as out of warranty repairs are quite expensive in the case of laptops and in particular sony vaio out of warranty repairs cost a bomb. You can buy extended warranty anytime within the first year of purchase.

Yes,absolutely. That 5k will be a better investment than the original 53k.
