Nvidia's new RTX Neural Texture Compression (NTC) has been benchmarked, showcasing a significant 96% reduction in memory texture size on the RTX 4090 compared to traditional methods. Two modes were tested: “NTC transcoded to BCn” and “Inference on Sample,” with the latter achieving an 88% memory reduction. Performance dips slightly with NTC enabled, especially in the "Inference on Sample" mode, while native resolution outperforms DLSS in certain scenarios. Though currently in beta, NTC shows promise for mainstream adoption across various GPU models, including older and non-Nvidia hardware.
