i wonder how many of you guys would remember tinkle and amar chitra katha but the great uncle pai is no more ,

the two rejection letters i got from him is one of my great treasured possessions

I remember the amar chitra katha series. Did not realise they came from my state. Pai is a konkana name.

Sad to hear :(

In those days, the 80's, comics wereone of the major cources of timepass, when not playing cricket hehe. I used to read any comic that I could lay my hands on including Tinkle and Amar Chitra Katha.

RIP Uncle Pai. He signed a couple of Amar Chitra Kathas when I won the TINKLE quiz in my school - and he gave away the prizes. I still have those copies lying around. It was fun reading Suppandi, Shikari Shambhu and Tantri the Mantri's evil adventures and Raja Hooja.

Ah...sad...RIP. As a kid, I once sent a story for publication in Tinkle. The rejection letter included Tinkle stickers from Uncle Pai for free.

R.I.P. Sir.

Those good ol' days when we used to wait for the train to arrive at the station and pester our parents to get us a copy or two of Tinkle from the bookstore. Gone are those days. :(

Anant Pai the legendary founder of India's most famous comic series "Amar Chitra Katha" and he was a writer, editor and publisher of the series that went on to sell 100 million copies of about 440 titles.

His genius came to the fore in the mid-60s during the time he worked with

The Times of India.
The iconic publication came about after Pai saw to his horror, that a child featuring on a television quiz show could answer questions about Greek history but could not say who Lord Ram's mother was. Pai's Herculean effort made sure no one forgot.

In 1984, Pai launched Tinkle, which went on to repeat the success of its mother brand with its own set of comic character like Suppandi, Tantri the Mantri and Shikari Shambhu.

In 2007, the publication changed hands and Amar Chitra Katha moved from India Book House to Mumbai entrepreneur Samir Patil who has since diversified the brand ACK Media.
