Musicmatch uses FHG mp3 encoder, which also being good, not as good and flexible as LAME, also Musicmatch doesnt let you rip your Audio cds with 100% accuracy, and no loss in the quality while ripping. Exact Audio copy is considered to be holy for most audiophiles :)

excellent, thread rated.. cant give ya reps till i spread some around :(

usually use wmp
hmm1.gif
to rip songs in lossless quality .. will try this now

EAC is the standard used for ripping Mp3's.
Its encodes vary on the encoder used for Encoding.

It gives us flexibility to use ne encoder thats why EAC is popular.
Also EAC supports direct ripping to many other formats like FLAC,AAC,MonkeyAudio etc...

Nice Tuts there Amol.

Found this guide for archiving music.

This brief guide, while well suited to the beginner, is as good as it gets. You'll use the best software, set it up properly, and then be able to transfer your CD collection to your PC or laptop - giving you an unbeatable audiophile jukebox in a reasonable amount of storage space (100 MB for a typical album). With the no compromise High Quality approach you won't have to worry about whether or not your songs will swoosh, warble and rumble. This isn't 128k mp3, it's HiFi. Welcome to transparent compressed audio !

the word 'lossless' seems to be being tossed around rather carelessly. LAME, as good as it is (the only thing i use to encode with) is still based on mp3 which is essentially a lossy format. If you want real lossless compression turn to something like Monkey Audio.

And for 'highest quality' with lame, just stick to the extreme preset.
'--alt-preset extreme - %d'

I never said, this was lossless, i just said it were high quality mp3s which most people use for listening purpose. Lossless is a different ball game and not everyone's cup of tea, since it takes up too much space, and most gamers/ non audiophiles dont care about lossless anyway.
