I'm not sure if i read it right, but looking at the Temperature results graph, it seems to show the Asus StarIce at the top?
I guess the only advantage the XP-120 had was slightly larger surface area/larger 120mm fan capable of pushing through more CFM with less noise :)

havent read the article in detail.. looking now the fan rpm is higher than the rest i think.. as are the noise levels. still i find the full load temp of 19 c a bit hard to swallow ;) doubt if we will get those temps with the heat here. i notice some heatsinks do better when the ambient temps are low. guess this is one of those cases .

I dont understand this - my Zalman 7000cu is not rated very highly in the test. But I get idle temps of about 2C above room temps with my Intel 2.4C at 3.0 - so how much better can one of the highly rated Heat Sinks be. Even if they gave the same reading as the rooms air temp they can only be 2C below my Zalman. They could now give CPU temps below the rooms air temperature - or can they ?

On load I get about 40 - 43 C which is about 10C above room temp.

Right now my room temp shown by a mercury thermometer is 31C and MBM says the CPU temp as I type this is 33C.

french article.. god knows what the ambient temp there is :D maybe thats why the difference in performance is so noticable.

but look the asus is no 1 with a fan thats gives out about 70db of noise while a xp 90 is 4th best with a fan thats about 40db loud.. guess its obvious which one ppl would choose

Definately not, heat is exchanged with the surrounding air so it could at best attain the same temps but never go below the temperature of the substance - i.e. air cooling it. Thats why case cooling is so crucial in lowering your CPU temps :)

Maybe zomeone with a good command on ze french language can tell us ze ambient temps? :D
Also quite true, it does look like the thermalright won based on its ability to make do with lower/quieter cooling. However for the extreme person, noise sometimes isn't a factor!

and if you must have noticed all those heatsinks which use a "heat pipe" to transfer heat from the core block to the fins did pretty well in the tests.

hence i am collecting heat pipes now. wanna mod the nf4 chip on the dfi ultra to a arrangement similar to an ABIT OTES 2 cooling solution. Since the location of that chip is dangerously close to the pci-e graphic card (in mm's literally) it is impossible to attach a better cooling solution on that board.

true.. so all we need to do is to put a similar fan on the xp 90 and see who wins

guess the flaw with the review that they used different fans for different heatsinks

sounds like an interesting project. hope you post the worklog at TE :)

do nf4 chuips get that hot as to use heatpipes??? :O

a better solution is to get a low profile custom heatsink made in a lathe out of copper, attach a 1cm thick 60mm fan on it....

No nf4 chips do not get hot since the mem controller is in the cpu

but ......

you see sunny i am a creature of habit (like many here):D . i cannot use a m/b unless i try some stunts / mods on it first. like putting small h/s over the clock generator chip etc....
surely i will be changing the caps on it "if" i find it will help me o/c a bit more with "stability".

I'm afraid so, in fact you might even need some good water-cooling for it too. I recommend DangerDen waterblocks :ohyeah:

Well just to confirm..is 37c high???.........i mean thts wht am getting on the chipset...also the chipset fan on this board is not even on full yet...running bouy 4500rpm's...
on full it runs at about 7500rpm's

so is tht high guys???.... ;)
