I have a Tat indicon wimax connection. They have a wireless reciever at the roof and a LAN cable comes down from it. It goes into a small box, which has a power connector, from there another lan cable comes and it goes into the lan port of the cpomputer.

Only way to login is open a browser, a tata indicom login page appears and login. no separate dialer :@ so if net gets d/c, no way to automatically reconnect, you'll have to press the login button.

Raised this issue with customer care. They told me they can make it auto-login, which means the connection will be logged in 24x7. The dialer page will no longer appear. Said just do that asap!!!

They also told me i cannot share this connection with any other computer. Currently I have a laptop and a headless download rig. Now i'm browsing by remote-desktopping the server, and use the browser there.

Now, I told the custo care guy that since the connection is always on, using a wifi router should do the trick, it'll be the same as a ADSL modem right? He said it might not work.

He said that if i get a wifi router, I can do some ICS stuff and get the wifi router running. But the catch is, my dload rig must be running all the time and i'm fast running out of downloads to put :|

Now i'm pretty sure sharing wont work with a switch, it needs a router. So I want your opinions if a router will work in this situation.

PS : I'm confused where to put this thread. BBand forum, wireless or pc peripherals. mods may move thread as needed.

Im pretty sure that a wifi router will do the job for you.

ICS is not necessary, just put the default gateway in ur pcs, the ip of ur wifi router. It will work.

Did he say why should the dload rig be running 24x7, are they going to check the mac address of the download rig. If they are going to do that then copy the mac address of ur download rig as mac of the wifi router.

hope this helps. :)

Worst case scenario if the above method does not work - you can create macros for loggin in when the net gets d/c, the macro will click on the login button for you.

What eh meant was my comp has 2 LAN ports, so use ICS to enable net on the second port. connect that to a wifi router and you can use wireless net @ home. Said he as successfully done 2 comps using ICS, but both were wired and the host PC had to be on whenever the second PC needed internet.

About the macros, i think that will be unnecesary once the always-logged-on mode will be enabled.

I dont have a static IP. anyways i havent read the whole thread. WIll try getting a wifi router for a day and test it out before buying :)

the usto care guy left me with the gateway username/password of the reciever. hope that helps.

once they make it full time , dont think it will be an issue. all these issues crop up only when you're trying to dial up via the router
