This is my first post here, I wish to buy RS480M2-IL,

Did anybody used this mobo, with linux/win2k server,
Did linux/win2k Server recognized it on-board network adaptor ?
Hope MSI provided drivers for linux, or at-least it's available on net...
Did anybody experienced any other networking probs with this mobo ?

Also i heard it's on-board graghics, shares 128 mb ram..
Does it really able to share full 128mb ?

How it's on-board graphics performs , when comparing with mobos having, nForce3/ nForce4 / GMA 900 on-board graphics ??

Thanx in advance.

Hi, and welcome to TechEnclave!
if you have the time, you could drop in to the Introduction Lounge and introduce yourself too :)

Moving along..
I'd wait for someone else to answer your Linux queries, since i have absolutely no clue about that.

As per the onboard graphics, yes it can share upto 128MB of your system RAM. You can vary the amount of RAM it shares from 16MB to 128MB in your BIOS.
The onboard graphics is pretty decent and is also DirectX 9 capable. In fact if i'm not mistaken, at the moment it is the most powerful onboard graphics solution.
nForce3/nForce4 boards do not come with onboard graphics. As for the GMA 900, the Radeon XPress is definately way better :)

why dont you checkout MSI' website. If you can find Linux drivers there then you may definitely find them on drivers CDROM that comes along with motherboard.

Boards with onboard gfx dont allow much Ocing. BTW you shouldnt have much probs in Linux as Radeon obviously has Linux drivers, and most of the LAN chips are auto detected by the new distros

^^ The Radeon Xpress 200 was primarily targetted at the enthusiast for its overclocking options, irrelevant of the onboard graphics. These are disabled on the MSI RS480M board, no idea why or if a future BIOS will add these options.
