Sold my good old RTX 4090 like an idiot before the 5000 series launch. For nearly two months i was stuck using the RTX 4070 super as backup. Finally got a good rate for an open box RTX 5090 TUF OC. A guy in my city had made an impulsive purchase and i was glad to take it off his hands. The card is massive but not larger than the 4090 i had.
Review :
1. Cooling :
At 100 percent power target, the card can go into 70s (deg celcius) quite easily. But i power limited to 80 percent. Stays at a cool 66 deg unless full load and a linear fan curve.
2. Performance :
30 percent over 4090 is what you should expect. In some specific scenarios like in VR where memory bandwith is the bottleneck, ive seen as high as a 50-60% jump over the 4090.
3. Connector issue :
Been tracking connector and cable temps using my IR imager. So far, connector is at 60 deg and cables are sub-46 degs. I suppose more testing is needed to see if an unbalanced load can happen across my corsair cable. So far i havent noticed this though.
My overall conclusion is that this card isnt worth the current price in the market, unless you are using it for specific workloads that require 32 GB VRAM with very high memory bandwidth. For gaming, it is an excellent card for VR or 8K gaming, but hard to recommend this over a 5080/4090 if you're using this for 4K, especially when upscaling comes into effect (render resolution is then even less than 4k)
