I was planning to open a bank account with Punjab and Sind Bank but it has brought to my notice that they issue a RuPay debit card and as such I'm unsure of its applicability to foreign transactions like Amazon.com and Aliexpress.

Don't opt for RuPay card. Its nothing more than an ATM card & only few Indian merchants accept it online. Also, any card from Punjab & Sind bank is not going to work anyways.
For Amazon.com & Aliexpress, get an ICICI bank account.

only few Indian merchants accept it online. Really, Which ones?

Also, any card from Punjab & Sind bank is not going to work anyways. Why?

For Amazon.com & Aliexpress, get an ICICI bank account. Loathe that bank to the core.

Be it RUPay card or master/VISA Card, they won't work on aliexpress.

For debit card =- only ICICI will work on aliexpress. Unless you have a credit card which would work on all the sites with no prob's.

Only for bank accounts opened under the Jan Dhan Yojna.

I have seen the RuPay symbol on a few websites, I don't remember exactly.

Even I do after the experience I had with them a couple of days ago. My revenge will only be completed after I open a zero balance account not only for me but of few others at their branch.[DOUBLEPOST=1421911635][/DOUBLEPOST]Alternatively, you could try opening an account on Indian Bank or Union Bank of India. I have heard their cards work but no guarantee.
Only sure debit card that works is ICICI.
Cards of Axis & HDFC may work or may not.
ICICI Basic savings account is the cheapest option after the public sector banks. But those idiots treat you like beggar if you go asking fr a NIL balance account.
Axis offers a YOUth account with debit card for NIL MAB but there is an annual charge of Rs. 400 for the debit card.

@pauldmps If you want to open a Zero Balance account in ICICI and also pay for transactions on Amazon.com/AliExpress etc, get an ICICI B2 account.

RuPay is accepted on IRCTC

No Debit card. And not available in my city.
They do have a basic savings account which is under the jan dhan yojna. But unlike other banks, they offer Visa debit card instead of Rupay with it. Only problem is that they are reluctant to open the account. I have sent a letter to the manager threatening complaining to RBI & taking legal action. Hope it sorts out.

Also in some other sites like Paytm. Soon most Indian merchants will accept it. But it will be useless for International transactions.

All banks that issue EMV chip enabled cards have already enabled international usage or going to. So, there are options other than ICICI.
Both my HSBC and HDFC debit cards can be used on line for international transactions.

It is impossible to make a list of all cards that do or do not work internationally. The info is based on what I got from multiple websites.
BTW, is it a chip & pin card o just regular one. And does it work on PayPal, Google wallet & iTunes?

its a regular card and is an international card.

havent tried it on paypal , or google etc, so cannot comment.
tried buying the 32gb pen drive on aliexpress during that sale.
lost about 2 rs in exchange for fluctuation of $ rate and conversion fees.

RuPay is supposed to have a tie-up with Discover for international payments. It is a great initiative. Give it some time...

^^ International means withdrawing cash at foreign locations. If they couldn't do it with VISA/MasterCard, do you expect they could do with RuPay?
