Rusting inside microwave cavity

Inside cavity of my microwave has started rusting in the back edges.

Its just 3-4yrs old so don't want to discard it yet, so was thinking to have it painted to squeeze few more years. But I'm not sure what kind of paint to apply.

I searched online, in other countries they get a specialized paint for it which although is available in India but costs almost 50% of what new microwave will cost.

Can anyone suggest what type of paint i should apply?

I wonder what will happen if you stick aluminum tape on it. That tape can handle the heat.
hmm metals esp thin sheets can cause sparks during microwave operation
yeah i looked at it, just was wondering if microwaves will inteact with the paint or worse cause any toxic fumes. So I was looking more for paint type which manufacturers themselves use

Might have to do with not wiping down the inside of the cavity on a regular basis. Acidic vapours due to the particular food heated deposit on the walls and over time attack the stainless steel.

Its possible also that low quality stainless steel is being used in your microwave. I've never seen rusting on the inside of a microwave when I was abroad. And these machines had been used by many people and were at least five years old. Some of the machines had enameled or white interiors so rust would never happen.

This post is to help others slow if not prevent similar happening to them

Same thing happened to my microwave after about 5 years.
We then used a microwave lid - https://www.ikea.com/in/en/p/prickig-microwave-lid-grey-50186091/ - to prevent any debris from falling onto food.
We used it for 2-3 more years without any issue - don't know about the long term health effects though.
We've bought a new oven now, and use the microwave lid to prevent food from dirtying the oven instead of the other way round like before.

That's what it's for. I've always covered food whenever reheating.

You speak like its the first time you're doing it. Splatter is acidic and will corrode the inside of your oven.

Makes me wonder whether @Haste also leaves food exposed when heating in the oven

Yeah we cover but not everything.

Anyway the issue is with this Microwave only. I have been using Microwave for 2 decades now with 3 different ovens, never faced such issue.
First one being samsung had that ceramic coating, which was the best one, lasted over a decade. Had left it behind while relocating. Second one Croma brand had stainless steel cavity which also lasted good 5-6 years before it door broke down and no replacement was available.
This third one Whirlpool brand is the lowest in quality. It has powder coated cavity, which I guess is not that durable.
Should it? If it's grounded to rest of the metal surface.
hmmm not sure will have to check
